The NYSID Janitor Custodian Porter is responsible for comprehensive janitorial duties such as cleaning and sanitizing restrooms according to established procedures, dusting and wiping furniture, sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming floors, and maintaining waste containers and ashtrays. This role also involves the use and upkeep of power cleaning equipment including buffers, burnishers, and side-by-side machines. Candidates must adhere strictly to chemical usage guidelines for safety and effectiveness. Additionally, this role requires the ability to move furniture and supplies when necessary and to follow instructions promptly and accurately. The janitorial position falls under Goodwill NYNJ's NYSID Janitorial Transitional Work Policy, which limits employment in this role to a maximum of 21 months. However, employment is at-will, and the transitional work policy does not create a contract for continued employment.

This position demands physical activity such as bending, squatting, lifting at least 50 pounds, and exposure to dust and electrical equipment. It also requires the capacity to work night shifts and to operate with minimal supervision. Candidates should have two to three years of janitorial experience, with a good understanding of cleaning chemicals and floor machines. Attention to detail and the ability to comprehend complex instructions are essential.
