The Assistant Supervisor will play a crucial role in ensuring that all operational standards—ranging from food safety to service quality and sanitation—are consistently achieved. This includes scheduling and staffing adjustments, managing sanitation duties, enforcing departmental policies, and resolving customer and patient concerns effectively. The role demands active participation in employee training, evaluations, and conflict resolution, emphasizing a positive, optimistic leadership approach that supports team success and operational excellence. The Assistant Supervisor also coordinates catering functions, supervises meal service presentation, and ensures that food displays adhere to health and safety standards. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- minimum of five years’ previous food service experience required
- one year demonstrated leadership experience preferred
- Manager’s ServSafe Certification preferred
- ability to evaluate a problem or situation and take action after analyzing the options
- proven leadership skills
- positive, optimistic and supportive personality
- commitment to quality, customer service and departmental goals
- must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Write schedules when assigned and make changes as needed due to call-ins or illnesses
- assure adequate staffing levels for shifts
- ensure daily sanitation duties are completed and assign special cleaning tasks
- enforce adherence to departmental and personnel policies such as dress code and appropriate use of cell phones
- conduct employee meetings and daily line-ups to keep staff informed
- resolve customer and patient concerns, complaints and questions
- ensure all service standards are met including food temperatures, serving times, proper food handling and storage, AIDET process, and customer service
- monitor workload versus staffing and make necessary adjustments
- maintain clean and well-stocked work areas
- ensure completion of all work prior to end of shifts
- collect, count, secure, and deposit all funds according to procedures
- maintain cleanliness and availability of all service ware and equipment for meal periods
- assist in training new employees and monitor their progress and competencies
- support employees with computer-based training
- communicate issues and information to Coordinators, Team Leaders, Supervisors, and Managers
- provide input for employee evaluations
- handle conflict resolution with employees, patients, families, and customers, offering service recovery when necessary
- attend department, hospital, and other meetings and training as delegated
- adhere to all DCH Nutritional Services Department policies and procedures
- assemble and deliver food and supplies for catered functions
- arrange tables and decorations for events
- prepare hors d’oeuvres, sandwiches, deli plates/platters, and salads
- set buffet tables according to standards
- serve food and beverages as required
- clean and pack dish utensils for removal
- return unused items to proper locations
- ensure appropriate merchandising and temperature holding of display foods
- complete food preparation assignments accurately and timely
- keep display equipment clean during meal service
- clean and arrange dining room tables and chairs as assigned before, during, and after meal service
