Job Requirements

  • Equivalent to a high school education or GED
  • Minimal on-the-job training required
  • Basic ability to read, write, and communicate
  • Ability to understand simple instructions
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to handle physical demands such as lifting up to 50 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods
  • Availability to work in a kitchen/cafeteria environment
  • Possess or be able to obtain an Oregon Food Handler’s Permit
  • Commitment to a drug-free workplace
  • Willingness to attend required workshops
  • Ability to supervise student helpers
  • Ability to follow safety and sanitation rules

Job Qualifications

  • Equivalent to a high school education or GED
  • Basic ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
  • Ability to understand simple directions and basic mathematical concepts
  • Knowledge of basic kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Understanding of safety and sanitation practices
  • Familiarity with USDA rules and regulations for meal service
  • Ability to operate school kitchen equipment
  • Capability to supervise student helpers
  • Skill in reading, understanding, and carrying out oral and written instructions
  • Competence in accurately recording and conveying information and handling money
  • Ability to learn basic computer software as applicable
  • Capability to make bank deposits and process meal sales
  • Commitment to a drug-free workplace
  • Willingness to attend food service workshops
  • Possess or obtain an Oregon Food Handler’s Permit or maintain current ServSafe certification

Job Duties

  • Perform routine food preparation duties
  • Serve food
  • Process free and reduced applications as needed
  • Perform cleaning and dishwashing and other general kitchen or serving area duties
  • Transport food to other school locations as required
  • Collect money and operate meal software
  • Sell ala carte and snack bar items
  • Assist with opening and closing kitchens at the start and end of the school year
  • Assist in cleaning and storing equipment and food supplies
  • Assist in assuring adequate supply of food items
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of assigned operational area
  • Supervise student helpers
  • Maintain necessary records
  • Fulfill other related duties as assigned
  • Meet performance standards identified in the evaluation process
  • Comply with working conditions and physical effort requirements
