One of the key components of this support system is their Campus Catering Program, designed to supply nutritious, tasty meals that meet the dietary needs of students and staff across the district. The Food Specialist III position, part of the General Production Staff within this program, plays a vital role in the success of daily meal services. This role is highly dynamic and requires advanced food preparation skills to handle the diverse menu items served to students and staff of District #202 and District #65. The Food Specialist III works closely with Department Leads and Food Specialist II staff to manage the food preparation, ordering, and service process. Responsibilities include preparing hot and cold meals, operating various kitchen equipment such as slicers, steamers, grills, ovens, and fryers, and assisting in inventory monitoring to ensure that the kitchen is always stocked with necessary ingredients. Furthermore, the role involves maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, providing excellent customer service during meal service, and contributing to the smooth operation of the department by assisting with daily and special production needs.

This position demands a person who can work efficiently both independently and as part of a team, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. Physical stamina is essential, as the job requires standing for extended periods, lifting heavy items, and working in temperature-variable environments. The ideal candidate will have the capability to comprehend detailed instructions, adapt to changing conditions, and maintain composure under pressure. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous food preparation experience preferred
  • Ability to lift at least 35 pounds alone and 50 pounds with assistance
  • Must be able to stand for long periods continuously
  • Must be able to work in hot, cold, or damp environments
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to follow complex instructions accurately

Job Duties

  • Performs the advance and daily food preparation for meals served to district students and staff
  • Works with serving area staff to place orders with department leads for daily menu items
  • Assists in monitoring stock levels and advises on inventory needs
  • Operates kitchen equipment such as slicers, steamers, grills, ovens, and fryers to prepare food components
  • Assists in meal set-up and service with an emphasis on customer service
  • Cleans and closes down serving areas and equipment
  • Assists department leads with daily and special production tasks and responsibilities
  • Communicates regularly with department leads regarding production and quality
  • Helps monitor equipment condition and reports repair needs
  • Implements food sanitation practices
  • Participates in routine cleaning and deep cleaning of production and serving areas
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Director of Food Service or Department Leads
