The Nutrition Services/Nutrition Center Manager position available is a full-time, non-exempt role entrusted with the responsibility of supporting the daily preparation of hot and cold meals according to production menus and participation guidelines. This role is crucial to maintaining effective meal service operations adhering to the National School Lunch Program requirements and district nutrition standards. The position ensures accurate inventory management, sanitation standards, food safety compliance, and accountability for meal sales and payments. Working under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Center Manager, this role involves significant physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, and working under a variety of temperature conditions.

The Nutrition Services/Nutrition Center Manager will be responsible for performing tasks such as food preparation, inventory control, sanitation, and participating in continuous education to remain updated on food safety and preparation techniques. The role demands proficiency in both hot and cold meal production, inventory receipt and rotation, quality control, and responsible handling of Free and Reduced applications. Employees in this role must demonstrate positive interpersonal skills to engage constructively with students, staff, and customers, fostering a positive environment in the Nutrition Center.

Candidates for this position should have at least a high school diploma or GED, valid Jackson County/Independence Food Handler's Permit, and basic computer skills. Prior experience in food service or production is preferred but not mandatory. The candidate must be physically capable of performing duties involving lifting, reaching, stooping, squatting, and standing for long periods, and should be adaptable to various working conditions including exposure to hot or cold environments and potential contact with cleaning chemicals and moving mechanical equipment.

Employment terms outline a nine-month work calendar aligned with the academic year, with salary and work schedules established by the Board of Education annually. The position also requires passing a post-offer medical physical exam and Essential Functions Test to ensure candidate fitness to perform job duties safely and effectively.

Job Duties

  • Proficiently prepares hot and cold food according to production and the daily menu
  • maintains food inventory guidelines as set by HACCP by monitoring and inventorying incoming food supplies for quality and quantity and ensures stock rotations
  • completes daily sanitation duties for the purpose of maintaining a clean and healthy environment for food preparation and serving meals in compliance with district, state and federal standards
  • assures that participation meal components are in accordance to the requirements of the NSLP and meet Independence School District's Nutrition Services department standards
  • assures accurate meal participation accountability by accurately posting sales and payments to student accounts
  • records deposits preps bank deposits and other reports daily
  • accurately receives products and assures inventory for daily production
  • maintains a high level of food quality - visual and taste
  • forwards Free and Reduced applications to the manager daily
  • follows all safety protocol and guidelines
  • reports any problems to the manager
  • attends and completes mandatory continuing education training as assigned
  • uses good time management without constant supervision
  • performs other duties as assigned
