Job Description

South High School is a prominent secondary education institution located in Wichita, Kansas, serving a diverse student population with a commitment to academic excellence and community engagement. As part of USD 259, the district is dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where students can thrive both academically and socially. South High School combines traditional and innovative educational approaches to prepare students for success in post-secondary education, careers, and life. A comprehensive range of extracurricular activities, sports programs, and support services complement the academic offerings, ensuring a well-rounded experience for all students. The school prides itself on maintaining strong community ties and providing a safe, respectful, and nurturing learning atmosphere.

The Nutrition Services Lead position at South High School plays a critical role in ensuring the effective operation of the school’s Child Nutrition Program (CNP). This role is directly responsible to the Manager, the building Principal, and the Supervisor of Secondary Nutrition Services Programs. As the leader overseeing the site cafeteria, the Nutrition Services Lead manages the development and coordination of cafeteria operations within a secondary school setting. The position involves supervising meal service activities to ensure nutritious, safe, and appealing meals are delivered to students, staff, and visitors in compliance with USDA guidelines and KSDE standards. The role includes staff management, from scheduling and training new employees to maintaining accurate payroll and timecard records. The Nutrition Services Lead also oversees food ordering and inventory, ensuring that supplies meet daily production needs and that the kitchen environment is clean and sanitary, adhering to Health and Safety HACCP plans and standard operating procedures.

Beyond daily operational responsibilities, the Nutrition Services Lead prepares and maintains comprehensive records and reports required by Nutrition Services and government agencies such as KSDE, including meal accountability and cash reserve documentation. Acting as the Cafeteria Manager in their absence, the role requires strong communication skills for collaboration with Nutrition Services office, school administration, vendors, and customers. The position demands physical stamina for routine lifting, bending, and standing, and mental acuity for detailed planning, organization, and adherence to regulations. This is a full-time, non-exempt, day job based at South High School, with a 196-day calendar. Benefits are provided as part of the employment package, and limited travel between district locations may be required.
