The Nutrition Services Kitchen Manager II role is a key position responsible for planning, preparing, and serving attractive and nutritious meals to students in a friendly and efficient atmosphere. Located at York International in Thornton, Colorado, this role involves supervising kitchen staff, managing food orders and inventory, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining accurate records, and supporting catering services for school events. This position is non-exempt and offers a competitive pay range from $24.96 to $37.78 per hour, working 8 hours a day over a 173-day school calendar. Reporting to the Nutrition Services Director, the Kitchen Manager II plays a critical role in delivering high-quality nutrition services that comply with district standards and federal guidelines. The role demands a blend of culinary skills, supervisory experience, and administrative capabilities to maintain a smooth and effective kitchen operation that supports student wellbeing and school nutrition goals. This position requires strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills, with a focus on maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming kitchen environment. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • two years of experience in food service
  • criminal background check required for hire
  • mandatory Title IX training as required by Colorado Department of Education
  • ability to perform physical demands including standing, walking, lifting up to 40 pounds, and other activities consistent with kitchen work
  • ability to work under conditions including exposure to extreme heat, chemicals, and moderate noise
  • capability to follow safety rules and report unsafe conditions

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Prepare food according to planned menus and tested recipes
  • complete daily records, deposits, and money journals
  • determine the quantities of food to be prepared daily
  • communicate with kitchen employees, district staff, students, and community to arrange for and serve nutritious meals
  • supervise and instruct kitchen personnel in safe and proper food preparation
  • supervise and instruct kitchen personnel in safe, proper, and efficient use of kitchen equipment
  • order all necessary supplies in compliance with the order schedule
  • check in food shipments by verifying orders and signing off on invoices
  • check equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition and report repairs or replacements
  • maintain kitchen employee time records and monthly inventory of kitchen supplies
  • assist with catering events scheduled in assigned building and larger events outside
  • attend staff development and manager meetings
  • instruct new kitchen employees in performing assigned tasks
  • evaluate the performance of all kitchen employees
  • perform other duties as assigned
