Job Description

Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS) is a renowned nonprofit, faith-based organization, headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota, dedicated to providing a broad array of high-quality housing, care, and services for older adults. Since its establishment in 1955, PHS has grown to become one of the largest nonprofit senior housing and services providers in the nation. With over 8,000 employees, PHS serves more than 41,800 older adults across 60 affiliated senior living communities spanning Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin, as well as through Optage® home and community services. PHS also co-owns Genevive, the largest geriatric primary care practice in Minnesota, catering to more than 15,500 older adults. The organization is widely recognized as an innovative leader committed to promoting independence, purposeful living, and overall well-being for the seniors they serve.

Beacon Hill, one of the distinguished PHS communities, is nestled in a quiet, wooded hillside in the Glen Lake neighborhood of Minnetonka, Minnesota. This assisted living community is unique in offering both tranquility and convenient access to nearby suburbs and downtown Minneapolis. Beacon Hill provides residents a comfortable, welcoming environment surrounded by beautiful natural settings including wooded grounds and a quarter-mile circular walking trail. Employees at Beacon Hill enjoy several amenities such as off-street parking with optional heated parking, discounted meals, and free access to the onsite fitness center.

The Nutrition & Culinary Services Director position at Presbyterian Homes & Services - Beacon Hill is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the planning, organizing, development, evaluation, and overall direction of the Nutrition and Culinary Services department. Reporting directly to the Site Leader, this role includes supervising a comprehensive team consisting of Assistant Directors, Executive Chefs, Supervisors, Nutrition Coordinators, Cooks/Chefs, Servers, and Lead Servers. The Director also manages contracted services integral to the Nutrition and Culinary Services program.

This role plays a strategic part in ensuring the delivery of high-quality meals and dining services that comply with all regulatory standards and widely accepted best practices. The Director contributes as a vital member of the site leadership team by participating in planning and implementing strategies designed to achieve both short- and long-term operational objectives relating to customer meal programs. Responsibilities include overseeing meal preparation and service based on established menus, regulations, and policies, while also assisting with hands-on meal processes when necessary.

A significant focus of this role is the continuous quest to improve customer satisfaction by regularly soliciting and integrating resident feedback into meal and service planning. The Director designs and develops menus and recipes that are both nutritious and appealing, emphasizing customer requests and satisfaction. Additionally, this role promotes a positive dining experience that supports customer independence, choice, and well-being within the dining program. Resident participation in dining activities is encouraged and managed by the Director to enhance community engagement.

Qualified candidates for this position typically have 3 to 5 years of leadership experience in food service, hold current certifications appropriate to their area, such as dietary manager course certification or food safety certification, and demonstrate competencies in areas including food service management, quality management, staff development, cooking, clinical nutrition for the elderly, and community outreach. Candidates must also demonstrate flexibility, personal integrity, and strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with residents, coworkers, family members, visitors, and the general public.

The estimated starting pay range for the Nutrition & Culinary Services Director at Beacon Hill is $61,277 to $76,565 per year, subject to individual qualifications and market factors. The position is full-time and benefits-eligible, with a comprehensive package that includes health and dental insurance, life insurance, retirement plans with employer matching, paid time off, holiday pay, and other valuable perks.
