The Nursing Technician role at White Plains Hospital Medical Center is a full-time day shift position, scheduled Monday to Friday with alternating weekends and holidays, working from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and totaling 75 hours per pay period. The hourly compensation for this role ranges from $25.00 to $28.80, with potential adjustments depending on shift differentials, experience, education, or other relevant factors. This position is essential within the WPH Nursing 5E_1 department, which provides specialized nursing care. This role involves performing patient care and non-patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, contributing directly to patient well-being and unit efficiency.

The Nursing Technician’s responsibilities include assisting patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), monitoring vital signs and intake and output (I&O), performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), documenting patient data, and conducting simple dressing changes and specimen collection. The role also involves helping with patient meals, running errands, transporting patients or specimens, ambulating patients, and managing urinary drainage care such as indwelling, external, or suprapubic catheters. Additional responsibilities are supporting colostomy care, applying binders, weighing patients, assisting healthcare providers during procedures and physical examinations, and undertaking other duties as assigned.

This position requires a dedicated individual who adheres to hospital policies and performance standards and actively engages in infection control practices and performance improvement initiatives. Effective communication and collaboration with the healthcare team are critical, as is participation in mandatory staffing meetings and in-services. The role demands adaptability, teamwork, strong problem-solving skills, stress tolerance, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Competency requirements must be completed to maintain proficiency in the role, and nursing technicians who need to interpret cardiac monitor data will undergo a mandatory 4-day EKG training class. The role requires obtaining or maintaining Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within six months of hire, emphasizing the importance of emergency preparedness and patient safety.
