Job Description
DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is a major healthcare institution located in Detroit, Michigan and is part of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) system. Renowned as the largest hospital within the DMC, Sinai-Grace offers a comprehensive range of medical services including a state-of-the-art heart center, advanced cancer care, specialized gerontology, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and cosmetic services. One of the hospital's standout programs is its joint replacement service, featuring revolutionary minimally invasive knee and hip replacement surgeries that draw patients from across the nation. In addition, Sinai-Grace operates over 21 outpatient care sites and ambulatory surgery centers across Wayne and Oakland Counties, providing accessible, high-quality healthcare to a broad community. Notably, the hospital is among only 10 in the United States to receive a prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant aimed at setting the standards for cardiac care for hospitals and physicians nationwide.
The role being offered is a pivotal leadership position within this esteemed healthcare environment, designed for an innovative and experienced healthcare leader committed to driving excellence and fostering outstanding patient outcomes and operational success. This full-time position, based in Detroit and operating primarily on a day shift, involves collaboration with senior leadership and subordinate staff to plan, implement, and evaluate processes related to performance improvement, staffing effectiveness, fiscal management, staff competence, and customer service outcomes within assigned units or services.
This role demands a results-driven leader who is passionate about making a meaningful impact on patients, caregivers, and the community. Responsibilities include ensuring quality and appropriateness of care, fostering an environment of shared decision-making, actively promoting multidisciplinary collaboration, and removing barriers to effective staff performance. The incumbent also plays a crucial role in supporting unit-based quality improvement programs, managing capital and operating budgets with a keen eye on cost containment, and guiding business planning efforts.
Additional key duties involve developing, implementing, and monitoring staff development and competency maintenance programs while supporting professional growth opportunities such as tuition reimbursement and nursing grand rounds. The leader will oversee recruitment and retention activities, ensuring human resource processes adhere to policies, and will work closely with peers and the wider healthcare team to maintain evidence-based clinical policies and compliance with regulatory standards, state and federal laws, and Joint Commission requirements.
This leadership role is integral to upholding the hospital’s mission, vision, and values, fostering positive relationships with physicians, patients, families, and employees, and modeling customer service excellence. The employee will ensure the achievement of unit and clinical service goals and objectives, encourage team building, and maintain open lines of communication through regular staff meetings. Compliance with DMC’s Code of Conduct and participation in internal and external audits to meet legal and ethical standards is a fundamental expectation.
DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital and Tenet Healthcare, the overarching health system, offer a comprehensive benefits package that supports the health, professional development, and work-life balance of their employees. Included are medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans, a 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer matching, generous paid time off, and access to career development and continuing education programs. Additional offerings include health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts for healthcare and dependents, employee assistance programs, discount programs, and a variety of voluntary benefits such as pet insurance, legal insurance, accident and critical illness coverage, long-term care, elder and childcare, and auto and home insurance. Eligibility for these benefits may vary by location and employment status.
Overall, this role provides a unique opportunity for a visionary healthcare manager to lead within a top-tier hospital recognized for clinical excellence and innovation, contributing significantly to superior patient care and organizational success.
