The nursing team at Lutheran Hospital's General Surgery 5D Unit specializes in caring for patients undergoing bariatric, neurology, spinal, and orthopedic surgeries. The unit offers a dynamic and supportive setting for healthcare providers, nurturing professional growth and innovation within the nursing field. As a Nursing Department Assistant III, you will play an essential role in supporting patient care by assisting with daily living activities, maintaining room and unit cleanliness, and performing clinical tasks such as EKGs, blood glucose monitoring, specimen collection, and documenting vital signs. This role provides a vital entry point into an exciting nursing career at Cleveland Clinic, well known for its leading-edge technology and advanced surgical practices.

Working evenings from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., you will become an integral part of a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering timely, effective, and compassionate care. You will assist nursing professionals in organizing patient care assignments, maintaining patient safety through hourly rounds, and ensuring that patient areas and equipment meet cleanliness and safety standards. Collaboration and communication with RNs and LPNs are key components of this position, ensuring that patient pain and needs are appropriately assessed and addressed. This role entrusts you with responsibilities that help to uphold the hospital's reputation as a center for outstanding nursing service, providing a hands-on, supportive environment for both patients and caregivers. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within new hire period

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification preferred
  • Previous nursing assistance experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Assist with wide variety of patient care tasks and collaborate with members of health care teams to promote the delivery of patient care
  • Organize patient care assignments to ensure timely delivery and completion of care on assigned patients
  • Document the care provided in patient record and label specimens properly
  • Ask patient about pain and report to the RN/LPN as needed
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of units, including patient/unit equipment
  • Keep patient areas neat and uncluttered and prepare rooms for patient admissions
  • Clean and maintain patient/unit equipment (i.e., over-bed tables, bed pans, bedside commodes, etc.)
  • Report any problems (i.e., equipment, supplies and maintenance problems) immediately to the RN
  • Make hourly patient rounds to assure safety measures are in place (i.e., side rails up as needed, beds are in low, locked position, phone and call lights are within the patients' reach and restraints are applied appropriately)
  • Ensure all bed alarms are activated during hourly rounds
