The Nurse Practitioner (NP) Primary Care role at Baylor Scott & White Health is a licensed and certified healthcare provider position, delivering direct patient care with prescriptive authority. NPs in this role are credentialed and privileged to practice independently under Medicare and Medicaid guidelines while providing medical care within the supervising physician's scope of practice. Typically practicing in internal medicine, family medicine, geriatric, or pediatric clinics, these healthcare professionals function as integral members of a collaborative primary care team that includes physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), medical assistants, licensed vocational nurses (LVNs), social workers, and front desk staff.
This position offers a Monday through Friday schedule of 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM with no weekends or on-call shifts, supporting work-life balance. The patient volume averages approximately 18 patients per day, which allows the NP to build meaningful and continuous relationships with patients. The role encompasses a comprehensive scope of practice including new and established patient visits, acute access and follow-up appointments, pre- and post-operative care, individual and shared in-basket management, and office procedures such as Nexplanon insertions, IUD placements, joint injections, incision and drainage, suturing, and biopsies.

The team shows preference for candidates with 2 or more years of experience but remains open to highly motivated new graduates. The NP will perform essential functions such as assessing patient physical and mental conditions, ordering and evaluating diagnostic tests, prescribing medications and therapies, counseling patients and families on treatment and health maintenance, and maintaining detailed patient records. The NP participates actively in a team-based model focusing on acute and chronic illness management and population health strategies, ensuring quality and compassionate care delivery.

Job Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program
- Licensed as a nurse practitioner in the state of Texas
- National nurse practitioner certification in area of specialty
- Current Texas RN licensure or RN licensure with compact privilege from a Nurse Licensure Compact state
- Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire or transfer
- Willingness to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM schedule
- Ability to perform office procedures including Nexplanon insertions, IUD placements, joint injections, incision and drainage, suturing, and biopsies
- Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills
- Ability to collaborate in a team-based care environment
Job Qualifications

- Ability to develop and implement comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans
- Skilled in counseling patients about medical and psychological conditions, treatment plans, and behavior modification
- Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests
Job Duties
- Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories
- Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs
- Prescribe, recommend, or use medical drug therapies or other treatments
- perform procedures following approved protocols focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost
- Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks
- Formulate and implement comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care
- collaborate with physicians and team members when appropriate
- evaluate patient's response to care and its effectiveness
- Counsel patients and families on medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion
- Counsel patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies
- Maintain appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes
- initiate timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise
- Provide consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the provider’s specialty and training
- Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and knowledge of the provider as delegated by supervising physician
- May provide care to patients in a team-based model focusing on acute and chronic illness management and population health
