This opportunity is for a Nurse Practitioner position within the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) system. This role entails conducting thorough medical evaluations of applicants seeking to join the U.S. military, ensuring these assessments align with established OSHA, Privacy Act, Department of Defense (DoD), and USMEPCOM standards. Candidates selected for this position will perform detailed medical histories, physical examinations, and interpret diagnostic tests, determining applicants’ eligibility for military service. The Nurse Practitioner will assess various body systems, coordinate further examinations when necessary, and maintain timely communication with applicants and the healthcare team to ensure accurate, compliant documentation across the medical databases.
This position requires on-site work at designated MEPS locations, supporting the rigorous and structured medical screening process necessary for U.S. Armed Forces enlistment. Employment is full-time with an estimated starting salary range between $120,000 and $130,000, commensurate with experience. The Nurse Practitioner is expected to uphold the highest standards of medical care within a military context, managing medical records and documentation using the MHS Genesis Electronic Health Record system. This system is crucial for ensuring compliance with federal and military health regulations. Additionally, the role involves contributing to quality improvement and peer review processes, fostering an environment where continuous enhancement of medical practices is a priority. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, specialists such as psychiatrists, dermatologists, and orthopedists, and military personnel, is essential to ensure seamless operations and optimal patient care within the MEPS framework.
The role comes with stringent employment eligibility criteria including U.S. citizenship, the ability to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC), and successful completion of the DoD clearance process to maintain access to sensitive government facilities. Candidates with prior experience in MEPS or familiarity with military medical standards, processes, and documentation systems are highly preferred. Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
- Pass U.S. Department of Defense clearance process
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Nurse Practitioner program
- Board certification in advanced practice nursing
- Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license
- Minimum one year post-graduate patient care experience
- Basic Life Support certification
- Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
- Willingness to work on-site at MEPS locations
- Strong clinical and communication skills
Job Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Nurse Practitioner program accredited by ANCC or ANPCP
- Board certified as Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Adult-Gerontology NP, or Acute Care NP
- Current unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in any U.S. state or territory
- Minimum one year post-graduate experience in direct patient care within the last three years
- Experience in MEPS facilities preferred
- Familiarity with military medical standards, medical processing procedures, and military documentation systems
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in EHR systems (Epic, Cerner) is a plus
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner
- Passed pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
Job Duties
- Conduct medical histories and physical examinations for military applicants to assess their service eligibility, ensuring compliance with U.S. Armed Forces medical standards
- Review medical documentation, test results, and medical histories to determine the applicant's medical qualifications
- Lead mental health and general health assessments, coordinating with specialists for additional consultations when needed
- Apply military medical accession standards to evaluate applicants and recommend additional medical evaluations if necessary
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and other privacy regulations while interacting with applicants and healthcare teams
- Utilize the MHS Genesis Electronic Health record system to document medical histories, physical exams, and consultations, ensuring all patient information is accurately recorded and compliant with military health regulations
- Participate in peer reviews and continuous quality improvement initiatives, ensuring the highest standards of care and service delivery
- Ensure all medical documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with military and healthcare regulations
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare providers and military personnel, to ensure smooth operations and effective patient care
- Assist with risk management and contribute to improving the efficiency of medical processing workflows
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
