UMass Memorial Health is currently seeking a full-time Houseworker to join its team at the Worcester, MA university campus. This position is 100% onsite with a day shift schedule from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, working 40 hours per week. The Houseworker role is vital in maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment within all hospital and building areas, which directly supports patient care and the overall function of the healthcare facility. The position is unionized under the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) and offers a competitive hourly rate ranging from $19.00 to $30.34, depending on experience and qualifications. A signing bonus may also be available, which will be discussed during the interview process.
In this role, the Houseworker will be responsible for thoroughly cleaning patient rooms, surgery areas, nurseries, nursing stations, emergency room lavatories, offices, corridors, and various other spaces. Duties include routine cleaning tasks like dusting, mopping, vacuuming, disinfecting, trash removal, and polishing fixtures. Additionally, the Houseworker may operate floor machinery such as burnishers and automatic scrubbers to keep floors clean and polished. The role also involves preparing rooms for new patients by performing "check out" cleaning duties, which include making beds in discharge and transfer units.

Job Duties
- Performs standard cleaning procedures in all hospital and building areas including patient rooms, surgery areas, and nursing stations
- Performs high dusting, spot cleaning of walls, windows, and doors, disinfects surfaces, mops floors, vacuums carpets, empties trash, and polishes bathroom and shower fixtures
- Operates burnishers and automatic floor machines to clean and polish floors
- Performs check out cleaning of discharge and transfer units including bed making
- Picks up and transports trash from collection points to compactor area
- Moves furniture and sets up meeting rooms as necessary
- Follows health and safety guidelines and hospital protocols
