Job Description
NAVSTA Norfolk is a key United States naval base located in Norfolk, Virginia, which plays a critical role in supporting the operations of the United States Navy’s Atlantic Fleet. The base is a hub of military activity and provides comprehensive logistical, operational, and community support services to military personnel, their families, and visiting forces. It encompasses a wide range of facilities and services, including housing, maintenance, training centers, and recreational amenities, ensuring an effective and efficient naval presence. NAVSTA Norfolk is committed to excellence in service and support, maintaining high standards in all its operational functions to support the mission readiness of the fleet and care for its personnel.
This job opportunity is with the NAVSTA Norfolk NEXCOM Hospitality Group (NHG), which manages hospitality services on the base including lodging and housekeeping services. The position is a full-time role based in Norfolk, Virginia, with a starting pay rate of $22.90 per hour. This role primarily involves supervising a team of housekeeping and laundry attendants, as well as housekeeping leads, to ensure the delivery of outstanding cleanliness and maintenance services that meet NHG standards.
As a Housekeeping Supervisor at NAVSTA Norfolk, you will be entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing daily housekeeping and laundry operations to maintain the cleanliness and orderly appearance of guest rooms, public spaces, outdoor areas, and laundry facilities. Your role will involve implementing the most efficient and economical cleaning methods, ensuring the availability of necessary supplies and linens, and coordinating with other departments such as front desk and maintenance to ready rooms for occupancy. Utilizing the Property Management System (PMS), you will prepare daily housekeeping reports and handle scheduling of housekeeping staff to meet program commitments.
The position demands hands-on management including conducting daily inspections of rooms and facilities, maintaining meticulous documentation of these inspections, and ensuring proper maintenance and security of supplies and equipment. You will train staff in work methods and safety procedures while fully implementing NHG's safety, fire prevention, and environmental standards. Inventory management is also a key component, requiring monthly and quarterly counts and ensuring supplies are ordered and available as needed.
Additionally, the Housekeeping Supervisor must evaluate staff performance, recommend awards or disciplinary actions, handle leave requests, and participate in hiring or promotion decisions. Maintaining excellent communication and problem-solving skills is vital, as you will address guest and staff concerns professionally and refer complex issues to management. The position also requires flexibility to perform housekeeping or laundry duties directly when staffing shortages or other situations arise. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the comfort and satisfaction of NAVSTA Norfolk’s guests and personnel, support operational excellence, and develop leadership skills in a dynamic military hospitality environment.
