The role of Building Engineer at ABM is a key position responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within a building or facility. This full-time position typically follows a schedule from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday, with a competitive hourly pay rate of $46.26. The Building Engineer is entrusted with the care and upkeep of a wide variety of equipment including boilers, heaters, pumps, valves, electrical motors, refrigeration compressors, gas distribution systems, water filters and softeners, fuel oil systems, sanitary sewer systems, trash compactors, kitchen equipment, and electrical power distribution systems among others. The engineer will be expected to perform preventive maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and maintain proper equipment operation and energy efficiency during seasonal changes. This role also includes responsibility for maintaining life/safety and security systems integrated into the building’s infrastructure. The successful candidate will need formal knowledge of HVAC components such as variable air volume systems (VAVs), air handlers, pumps, and unit ventilators, and must be able to read and interpret blueprints. Licensing requirements include the highest-level relevant state or local license for Stationary Engineer and/or HVAC, with a universal level refrigerant recovery license being required as well.

Computer skills and experience with building automation systems are essential for this role, as is certification meeting OSHA ACM awareness training requirements. Although EPA 608 certification is preferred, it is not a mandatory requirement. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that the facilities operate reliably and efficiently while providing a safe environment for occupants. The Building Engineer will also collaborate with building management to perform other duties as requested, making this a dynamic and integral part of the wider facilities management team.
