The Driver role at Performance Foodservice plays a crucial part in our logistics and supply chain system. This position involves operating straight trucks or vans to deliver and unload various food and food-related products on local intrastate and interstate routes. Primarily, drivers handle urgent deliveries related to mispicks and customer service issues, ensuring timely and professional service. Drivers must adhere strictly to all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, completing routes safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities include performing all required safety checks on vehicles before and after trips, securing freight properly, managing accurate documentation, and communicating effectively with customers, vendors, and colleagues. Drivers are expected to carefully unload and store products, perform damage control checks, collect payments when necessary, and maintain cleanliness and orderliness of trucks and loading areas. The role also demands compliance with all DOT and company safety standards and the ability to operate equipment such as lift gates and two-wheelers to manage freight safely.

This position offers a Monday to Friday schedule with early morning dispatching from approximately 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. The pay rate is $20 per hour, and benefits start from the first day of employment. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience
  • 6 to 12 months commercial driving experience
  • valid non-commercial driver's license
  • meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • must be 21 years of age
  • clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • pass pre-employment drug test
  • pass road test
  • able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate or other equipment to move and stack freight of varying size and weight
  • product generally ranges from 60 to 90 pounds depending on location

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of truck, van, and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Inspect truck, van for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and check customer invoices
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to assigned delivery schedule
  • Unload products from truck, transport items into designated customer storage areas, perform damage control checks, verify deliveries and obtain customer signatures, collect payments where required
  • Ensure truck, van and freight are appropriately locked and secured at all times
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns, complete necessary paperwork, maintain daily records in compliance with Federal DOT and company requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and trailers
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
