Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a part of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline food distributor specializing in delivering high-quality food products to a diverse range of customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on forming unique and lasting relationships with its customers by going beyond simple food distribution. A dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts work collaboratively to provide valuable advice on improving operational efficiency, menu development, product selection, and overall business strategy. This approach ensures that customers do not just receive exceptional products but also strategic support tailored to their business needs. Performance Foodservice is committed to helping independent restaurant owners grow and succeed, contributing positively to the foodservice industry's ecosystem.

The driver position at Performance Foodservice is an integral role within the company’s logistics and distribution operations. This position offers hourly pay at $21.00 and operates on a Monday through Friday daytime schedule with varying start times, providing home daily convenience. The role is designed for those who seek stable, meaningful work supporting the country’s food distribution system with ample growth opportunities. Drivers are equipped with a safe and inclusive working environment that promotes respect, recognition, and rewards, aligning with the company’s cultural values. Benefits commence from day one and include health and wellness plans, an employee stock purchase program, a 401K plan with employer matching, educational assistance, and paid time off.

As a driver, you will be responsible for intrastate and interstate deliveries, primarily using straight trucks or vans along local routes. The position focuses on timely and safe delivery and unloading of various food and food-related products. Special emphasis is placed on handling urgent orders which require prompt and professional customer service solutions. All activities must adhere to the company’s policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, ensuring safety and compliance throughout each route. Communication and professionalism are key as drivers are the face of the company when interacting with customers, vendors, and co-workers. The role demands diligence in managing delivery documentation, securing and inspecting freight, and maintaining truck and trailer safety standards.

The daily responsibilities encompass performing pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections in accordance with DOT requirements, ensuring that the truck, van, and trailer meet all safety standards before departure. Drivers must follow strict driving guidelines and immediately report any safety hazards or vehicle issues. Freight integrity is another critical responsibility, involving careful loading checks and verification through count checks and invoice accuracy. Drivers deliver and unload products, transport them to customer-designated storage areas, and manage any damaged goods or returns with attention to company policies. Sales transactions requiring cash or check payments may be part of the delivery process, along with obtaining customer signatures for confirmed deliveries.

In addition to delivery tasks, drivers are expected to maintain good housekeeping of their transport vehicles, perform log entries of hours worked as per federal and state regulations, and secure all equipment and freight at all times. The company welcomes those who perform other related duties as assigned, reflecting a flexible and supportive operational mindset. Performance Foodservice emphasizes legal compliance, safety, and respect in its employment practices, explicitly noting Massachusetts laws regarding the prohibition of lie detector tests as employment conditions. Overall, this driver role offers a rewarding opportunity to be part of a mission-driven organization that supports America’s food distribution infrastructure with pride and professionalism.
