Job Description
Performance Foodservice is a premier broadline distributor that plays a pivotal role in America’s food distribution network. As a subsidiary of Performance Food Group (PFG), the company has established itself as a trusted supplier to a diverse clientele, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a dedicated team comprising sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts, Performance Foodservice does more than just deliver food. The company is committed to building meaningful relationships with customers by offering valuable advice on menu development, operational strategies, and product selection to help businesses thrive and grow. This unique blend of supply and service represents the company’s core philosophy: providing not only quality food products but also comprehensive support to empower independent restaurant owners and other clients to achieve their aspirations and operational excellence.
The role being offered is that of a Driver responsible for delivering food and food-related products efficiently and safely across intrastate and interstate local routes. This position involves operating a straight truck or van, typically using a Non-Commercial Driver’s License (Non-CDL) vehicle. Drivers are primarily tasked with handling urgent delivery orders stemming from mispicks or customer service issues, requiring quick turnaround to meet client expectations. Scheduled largely from Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturdays, the role’s start times vary between midnight and 8 a.m., depending on route dispatch times, with the majority beginning early morning between 4 and 6 a.m. This position offers competitive hourly pay starting at $22.50 per hour and includes comprehensive benefits from day one.
The Driver’s responsibilities extend beyond just transportation to include performing necessary safety inspections and vehicle checks in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This includes pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring that all freight is properly loaded, secured, and matches customer invoices. Drivers are expected to maintain high safety standards, report any hazards or repairs promptly, and adhere strictly to all DOT rules and company policies. Interaction with customers is also an essential part of the job, requiring professionalism and excellent customer service skills to verify deliveries and obtain proper documentation such as signatures.
Additionally, drivers manage the unloading of items, ensure proper handling of damaged goods, and may need to make multiple dispatches daily due to vehicle capacity limitations. This role demands physical stamina for lifting and handling freight typically ranging between 60 to 90 pounds, use of equipment like hand trucks and lift gates, and performing general housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness and order within the trucks and docking areas. At the end of each shift, the driver secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork to ensure smooth operations for subsequent assignments.
Performance Foodservice is proud to cultivate a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment that promotes rewards and recognition for its employees. The company offers robust benefits, including a Day 1 Health and Wellness package, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K matching, education assistance, and paid time off. Growth opportunities are available for individuals committed to contributing to essential functions that support the nation’s food distribution infrastructure. The company embraces equal employment opportunity policies, reflecting its dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking a stable, rewarding career in logistics and transportation within the food service industry.
