Job Description
US Foods is a leading American foodservice distributor, committed to delivering superior products, technology, and services to a diverse customer base ranging from independent restaurants to national chains. With a deep-rooted heritage in the food industry, the company fosters a culture of innovation, safety, and operational excellence. Known for its vast distribution network and comprehensive product portfolio, US Foods serves as a vital link in the food supply chain, ensuring customers receive timely, fresh, and high-quality products. The organization is dedicated to nurturing a supportive environment for its employees and promotes growth through training, collaborative teamwork, and community engagement.
The role of Manager, Transportation at US Foods is pivotal in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the Transportation department. This position centers on building and sustaining a department culture that prioritizes people, safety, service, and cost-effectiveness. The manager will lead by example, crafting an environment where safety is paramount, and operational excellence drives customer satisfaction. Through meaningful engagement and development of drivers and transportation personnel, the manager will oversee the daily outbound shipments, making certain that deliveries are accurate, timely, and conducted within safety and regulatory standards. This full-time position offers an expected salary range between $60,000 and $95,000 annually, influenced by experience, education, and geography.
As a Manager, Transportation, you will have the responsibility of driving a zero-error attitude and fostering an atmosphere of upward communication and motivation among associates. You will be involved in interviewing, hiring, training, and coaching employees, addressing performance gaps, and ensuring adherence to Department of Transportation regulations. Safety meetings, accident investigations, and scheduling of shifts are among your key responsibilities, alongside promoting cost-effective and legal solutions to operational challenges. The role requires a blend of leadership, analytical skills, and hands-on involvement, including spending time on the road with drivers, ensuring real-time oversight and connection with daily operations. The position also emphasizes compliance with regulatory requirements like OSHA and DOT, financial data interpretation, and efficient use of planning tools such as Microsoft Excel.
This role includes the supervision of union and/or non-union drivers and requires collaboration across various internal departments including transportation leaders, warehouse leaders, and sales, as well as maintaining positive relationships with external customers. The work environment is dynamic, with time split between an office setting for administrative tasks and travel time on the road, exposing the manager to noise and vibration typical of vehicle operations. Travel up to 10 percent is expected for mandatory meetings or training.
US Foods offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, disability coverage, an employee stock purchase program, and life insurance. The company values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer, encouraging individuals from all backgrounds to apply and contribute to their mission of foodservice excellence.
