Job Description
Santa Monica Proper Hotel is a distinguished luxury hotel located in the vibrant coastal city of Santa Monica, California. Renowned for its design-driven approach and commitment to elevated guest experiences, this establishment embraces a collaborative and service-focused culture. As part of Proper Hospitality, a collection of boutique hotels celebrated for their distinct style and exceptional service, Santa Monica Proper offers an environment where creativity meets professionalism. The hotel combines modern elegance with personalized attention, delivering Forbes-level standards that cater to discerning travelers seeking comfort, sophistication, and impeccable service in a prime location.
The role of Night Manager at Santa Monica Proper Hotel is a pivotal position that requires a polished, detail-oriented professional to lead overnight operations. This overnight leadership role involves overseeing all aspects of hotel functions during the night shift, balancing financial precision with exceptional guest service. The Night Manager serves as the overnight Manager on Duty (MOD), acting as the primary contact for all hotel operations and ensuring seamless communication across departments such as Front Desk, Security, Valet, and Housekeeping.
This position demands responsibility for auditing daily transactions, preparing and distributing operational reports, and supporting various departments to uphold the hotel’s high standards throughout the overnight timeframe. The individual in this role ensures all overnight activities comply with hotel policies and financial procedures, maintaining data integrity and accuracy. They are charged with performing full property walkthroughs to confirm cleanliness, safety, and proper presentation, thereby safeguarding the hotel’s esteemed reputation.
The Night Manager’s duties extend to managing guest concerns promptly and effectively, executing special requests and accommodations, and maintaining familiarity with guest itineraries including arrivals, departures, and VIP check-ins. Financial accountability is a critical component, involving execution of the End of Day processes, auditing of credit card settlements, reviewing no-shows, cancellations, and high-balance guest accounts with due diligence and discretion. Additionally, this role entails managing food and beverage comp reconciliations and ensuring accurate reporting to leadership.
Operationally, the Night Manager coordinates with multiple software systems such as Infor HMS (PMS), Canary, ALICE, Revinate, Toast, and Marriott-specific platforms. They ensure Marriott Bonvoy loyalty data is accurate and that guest profiles and financial records remain consistent. Strong interdepartmental communication ensures smooth transitions and operational readiness from night to day shifts, supporting housekeeping, engineering, security, valet, and food and beverage teams effectively.
Ideal candidates will bring at least two years of experience in hotel front office or night audit roles, preferably within luxury environments, along with proficiency in relevant hotel management systems. They must demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, financial accuracy, independent decision-making skills, and a commitment to maintaining Forbes-level service standards overnight. Advanced communication, problem-solving abilities, and Microsoft Excel expertise are essential.
This role thrives in a fast-paced environment requiring both desk-based administrative duties and physical walkthroughs, including stair navigation and handling light to medium weight items. Night Managers at Santa Monica Proper are integral to ensuring that financial audits, operational compliance, guest experiences, and team coordination are flawlessly executed during overnight hours. They play a vital part in preparing the hotel for successful morning operations and sustaining the brand’s reputation for excellence.
Santa Monica Proper Hotel offers a dynamic workplace with opportunities for professional growth within the Proper Hospitality brand. The hotel fosters an inclusive, supportive atmosphere where team members collaborate to deliver outstanding service. Joining this team means becoming part of a forward-thinking company that values innovation, guest focus, leadership, and accountability in a luxury hospitality setting. The Night Manager position is an exciting career opportunity for those passionate about the hospitality industry and eager to contribute to a world-class hotel experience.
