Job Description

This position is with a university residence life department responsible for overseeing the overnight operation of a 24-hour residence hall desk. The hiring establishment is an academic institution that offers on-campus housing to students, providing them with a safe and supportive living environment. The Residence Life team focuses on maintaining security, supporting student needs, and delivering excellent customer service to residents living on campus. The role is essential in ensuring the smooth functioning of the residence hall during overnight hours when staff presence is minimal, acting as the primary point of contact for students and visitors alike. The employment is a full-time position with an anticipated salary ranging between $34,000 and $38,674 annually, categorized within the UT Market Range MR04.

The Night Host role primarily involves administrative, clerical, and safety-related functions. This individual acts under the direction of the Resident Director and Assistant Director, assisting them with routine clerical duties and responding to any incidents or emergencies that arise during the overnight shift. Their responsibilities include maintaining key control within the residence hall, handling lockouts, and ensuring all areas remain secure. Importantly, the Night Host provides customer service by answering questions about housing policies, procedures, and campus resources. They serve as a resource person, offering guidance to students and directing them to appropriate services when needed.

Working effectively under pressure with frequent interruptions is crucial for success in this position, as the Night Host must manage safety concerns such as fire alarms, security breaches, and crisis situations. Attention to detail and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are vital as this role requires interaction with students, university staff, and occasionally campus police. The candidate will also be expected to demonstrate competency in various office applications including the Microsoft Office Suite, specialized housing software systems like Banner, RMS/Mercury, and DASH.

This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and have a strong desire to support a diverse student population. The role contributes significantly to the residential community experience by promoting safety, security, and efficient administrative processes. Experience within higher education or university settings, especially in residence life or security, is preferred but not mandatory. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to gain valuable insight into university housing operations and play a vital role in enhancing student life on campus through reliable and professional overnight service.
