The role of Bartender at Newport Aquarium is a vital position that combines impeccable guest service with the responsibility of managing beverage service at various events hosted by the aquarium. Bartenders are expected to greet customers warmly and maintain a high standard of world-class service by accurately preparing and serving drinks based on guest requests and inventory availability. The position requires adherence to safety protocols and the ability to recognize intoxication levels to ensure guest safety. Bartenders will work closely with the Events Management Team, following their direction to efficiently set up bar areas, maintain stock, and manage cash transactions including balancing the bar money bag at event close. In addition, the role involves maintaining cleanliness and organization of bar equipment and supplies to uphold health and safety standards.

Bartenders must demonstrate agility in fast-paced environments, show strong public speaking skills, and possess the capability to think quickly under pressure to uphold the integrity of event experiences. This on-demand role requires flexible availability including weekday evenings, weekends, and holidays, making it ideal for individuals who thrive in lively, customer-focused settings. Safety and professionalism are paramount, and candidates must complete a background check and meet physical requirements such as standing for extended periods and lifting items up to 50 pounds. Job Requirements

  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check
  • No history of allergy related to animals or plants that might interfere with ability to work
  • Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time, climb stairs, bend and stoop
  • Physical strength to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekday evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be at least legal drinking age to serve alcoholic beverages

Job Qualifications

  • Strong public speaking skills and customer service experience
  • Serv-Safe training or concurrent bartending training is a plus
  • Newport City Bartending License is a plus
  • Ability to think on feet and maintain show integrity in high stress and high volume events
  • Willingness to take direction and coaching to improve skills and enhance guest experience
  • Must read, write, and speak English
  • Knowledge of other languages is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced job while remaining courteous, friendly, and helpful
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including weekday evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • This is an on-demand position with no guaranteed weekly hours

Job Duties

  • Greet customers in a courteous fashion with a world-class service in mind
  • Accurately pour and mix based on customer requests and available inventory and liquor
  • Respond to and take direction from the Events Management Team
  • Recognize levels of intoxication and utilize safety standard training to prevent guests from reaching intoxicated levels
  • Maintain a safe work environment at all times
  • Accurately set bar based on instructions by Event Management Team
  • Prepare and restock bar supplies such as dry goods, glassware, juices, sodas, and garnishes
  • Help maintain cleanliness of bar equipment including liquor control devices, knives, tongs
  • Collect money and make accurate change, balance bar money bag at end of each event
  • Accurately complete open and closing inventory or consumption sheets
  • Follow work schedule and instructions provided for event
  • Setup bar area in a timely manner
  • Pour and dispense alcoholic beverages to legal age guests
  • Maintain security of all bar supplies and inventory
  • Learn and adhere to HFE core values, guest service standards, policies and procedures, and safety protocols
