Job Description

The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) is a key governmental agency dedicated to improving health and wellness across the state of South Carolina. DPH is committed to employing highly skilled IT professionals to maintain and improve their technology backbone, which supports critical public health operations statewide. This role is fully onsite in South Carolina requiring the candidate to be a current resident within the Eastern Time Zone and willing to relocate to South Carolina at their own expense before the start date. Employment type is typically contractual, with expected full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, and the contract includes strict adherence to the agency's confidentiality and security policies.

This position is for a Network Administrator who will work under the guidance of the Network Operations Center Manager to coordinate the deployment, operational support, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of the agency's critical enterprise network architecture. The role involves working closely with various IT groups including network, security, and server hosting teams to provide technical solutions, mitigate issues, and ensure seamless connectivity and authentication services throughout the enterprise. The candidate will be responsible for supporting key initiatives such as SD-WAN deployment, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) lifecycle management, secure authentication services and network connectivity on Windows-based and mobile platforms. Essential duties include the installation, upgrading, and maintenance of network equipment, including switches and wireless access points, as well as managing network documentation such as diagrams and coverage maps. Physical requirements include the ability to work on ladders and lift up to 40 pounds. The candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills to effectively support both technical and non-technical staff and provide updates and progress reports to project management. This role requires flexibility for travel to remote office locations across South Carolina and occasional extended work hours beyond the standard business day. The selected candidate will also ensure compliance with all State and agency IT security policies and standards. Overall, this position plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and functionality of the South Carolina Department of Public Health's enterprise network infrastructure, thereby supporting the broader public health mission of the agency.

Job Requirements

  • 3 plus years of experience with installing, configuring, and troubleshooting switches and wireless access points
  • 3 plus years of experience with SD-WAN, PKI, secure authentication services, and troubleshooting network connectivity on Windows and mobile devices
  • ability to perform onsite physical network work including lifting 40 lbs and working on ladders
  • valid driver's license and ability to travel statewide to remote sites with a state or personal vehicle

Job Duties

  • Support enterprise network and identity initiatives including SD-WAN deployment, PKI lifecycle management, and secure authentication services
  • Monitor, identify, and remediate issues with agency enterprise network and identity services
  • Support network connectivity and authentication services on Windows-based systems
  • Support connectivity and secure access on mobile devices such as Apple devices
  • Manage the network and identity infrastructure lifecycle at all stages
  • Create and maintain network documentation including diagrams, coverage, and design documentation
  • Assist with deployment, configuration, and support of SD-WAN, PKI, and secure authentication solutions
  • Perform enterprise network deployments, installations, and upgrades including working on ladders and lifting up to 40 lbs
  • Perform firmware, software, security, and feature upgrades across network and identity platforms
  • Monitor agency trouble ticket system and complete assigned tickets related to network, authentication, and connectivity
  • Serve as the agency's primary support resource for network and access-related authentication technical issues, troubleshooting and resolving common problems
  • Assist agency staff and contractors in resolving network, authentication, and connectivity issues
  • Coordinate and assist with testing and validation of network and identity solutions
  • Adhere to state and agency security and IT policies and standards
  • Work closely with key stakeholder groups including network, security, and server hosting
  • Assist various IT groups with tasks such as system and network installations and upgrades including equipment racking
  • Create, maintain, review and improve network and identity documentation
  • Plan, organize, review, and implement associated project milestones to completion
  • Provide updates to project team
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned
