The company serves a wide range of customers and communities, demonstrating a commitment to creating meaningful opportunities where people live, learn, and work. Nelnet values its employees and offers an inclusive and welcoming workplace that fosters growth, development, and success. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Nelnet ensures fair consideration for all qualified applicants, emphasizing respect, diversity, and support for every associate. The company maintains a drug-free and tobacco-free environment and offers reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.

As a Customer Service Advisor with Nelnet, you will be the face of the company to our valued customers. This role is located in Brownsville, TX, and requires onsite training before transitioning to a potential remote work setting once performance expectations are met, usually around three months. The position pays $16.50 per hour with potential to earn up to an additional $4.57 per hour based on benefit elections. Training runs for five weeks, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. CST, with post-training shifts scheduled primarily during daytime hours Monday through Friday. Due to operational needs, shifts are not flexible and time off is limited during training.

In this role, you will assist customers with inquiries about their student loans including general questions, payment processing, and payment options. Nelnet equips you with comprehensive training programs designed to enhance your communication skills and familiarity with multiple communication platforms such as web chat, email, text, and social media. You'll also participate in professional development opportunities and gain in-depth knowledge about student loans, including financial components like interest rates and credit reporting. Your goal each day will be to provide outstanding customer service while empowering borrowers to manage their student loans effectively.

Nelnet values the growth and advancement of its Customer Service Advisors, providing them with tools to succeed including cross training to handle various communication channels, ongoing professional development programs, and a supportive team environment. The company emphasizes principles aligned with a Performance Based Organization and fosters continuous process improvement. The role requires maintaining data integrity and confidentiality, as well as the ability to manage multiple customer accounts simultaneously using internal resources and escalation procedures when necessary.

Additional contract requirements include obtaining and maintaining a favorable Federal clearance involving fingerprinting and securing a PIV-I card, being a United States citizen residing within a 60-mile radius of Brownsville, TX, and complying with government security protocols. Applicants must not be delinquent or in default with any federal debt. Nelnet seeks candidates with experience in customer service or related fields, strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and knowledge of business math and MS Office applications.

The company offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision coverage, health savings and flexible spending accounts, generous earned time off, 401K with student loan repayment options, life and AD&D insurance, employee assistance programs, stock purchase program, tuition reimbursement, performance-based incentives, disability coverage, and wellness programs.
