Job Description

NAVSTA Norfolk, short for Naval Station Norfolk, is the world's largest naval base located in Norfolk, Virginia, serving as a strategic hub for the United States Navy. This prestigious establishment plays a critical role in supporting naval operations, offering comprehensive lodging and hospitality services to service members, their families, and authorized personnel. Among its valued facilities are Navy Gateway Inns and Suites as well as Navy Lodges, which provide comfortable and welcoming accommodations tailored to the needs of military travelers. These establishments are renowned for their commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction, ensuring that every visitor experiences a restful and secure stay. The organization deeply values discipline, dedication, and attention to detail, qualities that resonate throughout its operational teams.

The role in question is a part-time Housekeeper, with a pay rate of $18.21 per hour. This position is vital within the hospitality team, responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitary condition of guest rooms and public areas at Navy Gateway Inn and Suites or Navy Lodge properties. The Housekeeper will be performing a full range of housekeeping duties including cleaning various types of areas such as guest rooms, public spaces, storage rooms, laundry facilities, and exterior spaces. The work requires operating both hand and powered cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, polishers, and other facilities maintenance tools. Tasks include but are not limited to dusting, mopping, waxing, scrubbing, disinfecting, laundering linens, and removing debris. The Housekeeper is expected to undertake deep cleaning on a scheduled basis or as necessitated by specific circumstances such as guest checkouts involving pet-friendly or ADA service animal rooms.

In addition to routine cleaning, this role entails inspecting the functionality of various room assets such as TVs, alarm clocks, phones, and luggage racks. The Housekeeper also manages room amenities, replenishing supplies in guest rooms, changing and inspecting bed linens, repositioning beds upon guest requests, and securing privacy and safety for guests at all times. The position demands regular communication with supervisors and completion of housekeeping documentation or property management systems to report on work progress and any unusual circumstances. Experience with minor maintenance repairs and use of basic hand tools is also expected. Furthermore, the job involves responsibilities like handling keys, assisting with supply receipt and merchandise organization, cleaning external areas such as parking lots, and capability to operate within safety protocols related to blood-borne pathogens and general housekeeping safety. The Housekeeper may also be required to participate in breakfast bar setup and cleanup, requiring relevant food handling certifications.

This part-time role offers a schedule ranging between 20 to 34.5 hours per week, suitable for those seeking flexible employment within a disciplined, team-oriented environment. Candidates should ideally hold a high school diploma or equivalent, although no prior experience is mandatory, as training and certification, including NHG housekeeping certification, will be provided within six months of employment. Physical requirements of the role involve moderate physical effort including moving furniture and the use of various cleaning equipment. The position may occasionally necessitate travel to other lodging facilities, which may require a valid state driver’s license.
