Job Description
NGIS Norfolk - NW Annex is a prominent lodging establishment specializing in providing high-quality accommodations and exceptional guest services primarily to the military community and their families. Situated in Chesapeake, Virginia, NGIS Norfolk operates under the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) and offers convenient lodging options such as Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and Navy Lodge properties. This organization prides itself on delivering comfortable, safe, and secure environments for service members and their guests, ensuring that the facilities maintain high standards of cleanliness, customer service, and operational efficiency.
This part-time position, offering a pay rate of $16.75 per hour, focuses on the essential role of Front Desk Agent. This position acts as the first point of contact for guests arriving at the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites or Navy Lodge properties, welcoming them with professionalism and warmth while efficiently managing the front desk operations. The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee all stages of the guest's stay, accommodating special requests, resolving any issues that arise, and providing comprehensive information about lodging facilities, amenities, and local attractions.
The Front Desk Agent maintains a welcoming attitude and exhibits effective communication skills to ensure a positive guest experience throughout their stay. This includes managing reservation processes via telephone or in person, handling check-ins and check-outs, verifying authorized patrons, processing payments including credit card transactions, and assigning guest rooms. The role demands strict adherence to standard operating procedures and eligibility guidelines to maintain order and security within the lodging establishment.
Additional responsibilities include managing group reservations, assisting with inventory control of keys and supplies, maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the front desk and lobby area, and assisting with breakfast service operations as necessary. The agent also plays an integral role in working with property management systems (PMS) to access and update guest information, generate reports, reconcile shift transactions, and log maintenance or trouble calls appropriately.
The position requires someone who is flexible with scheduling, including the willingness to work weekends, holidays, and potentially cover shifts during inclement weather or emergency situations in the absence of supervisors or managers. Candidates must be prepared to obtain the NEXCOM Hospitality Group front desk certification within six months of employment and, if applicable, possess a valid driver's license to travel between lodging facilities.
Overall, this Front Desk Agent role at NGIS Norfolk - NW Annex not only serves as a critical guest service position but also contributes significantly to the smooth operational efficiency of the lodging facility, ensuring guests feel welcomed, safe, and well-informed during their stay, thereby supporting the Navy's mission and community.
