This organization is dedicated to providing superior lodging services to Navy personnel and their families, ensuring a comfortable and secure environment where guests can relax and feel valued. Situated in a strategic military location, NGIS Norfolk NNSY is committed to upholding the highest standards of hospitality and customer service, reflecting the values and professionalism of the United States Navy.
The position available is for a full-time Housekeeping Attendant at the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites or Navy Lodge in Portsmouth, Virginia. This role is essential to maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall guest satisfaction within the property. With a starting pay rate of $18.21 per hour, this job offers steady employment with more than 35 hours per week, ensuring a strong work-life balance for employees dedicated to supporting the Navy community. The role does not require prior experience, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking entry into the hospitality industry or those looking for a stable job with benefits.
Housekeeping attendants at NGIS Norfolk NNSY perform a comprehensive range of cleaning and maintenance duties across guest rooms, public areas, storage rooms, laundry facilities, and exterior spaces. This role requires the use of both hand and powered cleaning equipment to perform tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, dusting, polishing, and removing debris to uphold the high standards expected in military lodging facilities. Daily responsibilities also include deep-cleaning elements such as carpets, walls, windows, kitchen appliances, and bathroom fixtures, ensuring a hygienic and welcoming atmosphere for all guests.
Attendants are responsible for ensuring guest rooms are impeccably clean and properly stocked with amenities, linens, and supplies. They must inspect mattresses and furniture, reposition beds as needed, and maintain the functionality and cleanliness of room features like televisions, alarm clocks, and phones. Outstanding guest relations are a priority, with attendants expected to greet and welcome guests warmly, maintain privacy and security, and report any unusual occurrences or maintenance needs to supervisors promptly.
Additional duties include managing the setup and breakdown of the complimentary self-service breakfast bar, performing light maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, handling laundry operations, and maintaining cleanliness of exterior common areas such as parking lots and walkways. The role may also require the use of vehicles for travel between lodging facilities and the handling of supplies and merchandise using standard hand tools.
To support their duties, attendants must complete safety and security training, including protocols related to blood-borne pathogens and food handling certifications where applicable. Employees should be prepared to obtain Navy Hospitality Group (NHG) housekeeping certification within six months of hiring, reflecting the company’s commitment to professional development and industry standards. This position contributes significantly to the overall guest experience by ensuring every space is clean, safe, and hospitable, thereby upholding the reputation of NGIS Norfolk NNSY and the Navy Exchange Command at large.
