Job Description
The organization is a part of the Navy Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program, which is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Navy personnel, their families, and the community through a wide range of recreational and leisure activities. The MWR program offers facilities and services designed to provide enjoyable and meaningful experiences that promote health, wellness, and social engagement. This establishment specializes in providing various recreational activities including community events, ITT office services, campsites and cottages, arts and crafts programs, fitness and athletics, golf course operations, skeet range activities, youth programs, bowling centers, and stables. These activities serve to enhance morale and foster a sense of community among participants, making the program an integral part of Navy life and its support infrastructure.
The role offered is a specialized recreational activity coordinator position within this dynamic environment. The incumbent will be assigned to one or more specialized recreation activities such as Community Activities, ITT Office, Campsites/Cottages, Arts & Crafts, Fitness/Athletics, Golf Course, Skeet Range, Youth Activities, Bowling Centers, and Stables. This position may involve overseeing the sale of retail items associated with these activities, ensuring that all transactions align with established procedures and customer satisfaction standards. A primary responsibility of this role includes ensuring strict adherence to all safety rules and regulations to guarantee a secure and enjoyable environment for all participants. Beyond day-to-day management, the role requires the incumbent to perform various related duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to meeting the needs of the recreation program and its patrons.
This position is ideal for individuals with a passion for recreation and community engagement who possess strong organizational skills and can work independently. Candidates must be capable of making informed decisions and communicating effectively with a diverse clientele both orally and in writing. The knowledge of Navy MWR's mission and a deep understanding of the goals, principles, techniques, and procedures used in organizing and conducting leisure-time activities are crucial. Additionally, the incumbent must be adept at using computers, office procedures, and print production technologies to maintain accurate records, compile data for reports, conduct research on recreation topics, and provide clear information to customers. A strong customer service orientation is also essential to succeed in this role as it directly impacts the quality of the recreational experiences provided to the community.
Employment for this position is classified as OTHER (non-standard employment type), demonstrating the specialized nature of the role within the Navy MWR system. While no specific education level is mandated, a combination of experience related to customer service and recreation activity-based functions is highly valued. The focus is on practical skills, knowledge of recreation management principles, and the ability to foster a welcoming and safe environment conducive to recreation. The role offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing and morale of Navy community members by ensuring well-organized, engaging, and safe recreational programs and facilities.
