The role of a Multisite Maintenance Technician at Equity Residential is critical in maintaining the high standards of service and upkeep across several apartment communities. Under the guidance of the General Service Director or Service Manager, this technician is responsible for responding to resident service requests, preparing apartments for new tenants, maintaining common areas, and performing a variety of maintenance tasks. This role requires a hands-on professional who is adept at troubleshooting plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and appliance issues, as well as performing interior repairs and painting. The technician must respond promptly to emergencies and conduct scheduled maintenance to ensure all properties are well-maintained and meet the company's brand promise. Job Requirements

  • Hands-on general service maintenance experience required
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, appliances, HVAC equipment, and perform interior repairs and painting preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, auto insurance, and reliable transportation required if operating motorized vehicle
  • Computer literacy and ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in English
  • Must be able to work any assigned shift including weekends
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies after normal business hours and weekends
  • Own smartphone required with updated software, password protection, and compliance with security systems
  • Ability to perform physical activities including prolonged or repeated standing, walking, climbing, sweeping, stooping, kneeling, shoveling, crouching, lifting, handling materials, with frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs

Job Qualifications

  • Hands-on general service maintenance experience
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, appliances, HVAC equipment, and perform interior repairs and painting preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record and auto insurance required if operating motorized vehicle
  • Computer literacy
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to work any assigned shift including weekends
  • Ability to respond to emergencies after normal business hours
  • Familiarity with smartphone use for work tasks
  • Physical ability to perform tasks involving standing, walking, climbing, sweeping, stooping, kneeling, shoveling, crouching, lifting and handling materials up to 50 lbs
  • Trade school certification or diploma (bonus)
  • EPA Section 608 certification preferred
  • Experience in residential or commercial property management, hospitality, or retail (preferred)

Job Duties

  • Prepares all market-ready apartments
  • Responds to resident service requests and concerns in a timely manner
  • Performs various maintenance functions
  • Maintains grounds and common areas and keeps them free of trash, debris and if applicable, snow
  • Performs on-call emergency service as required
  • Performs special maintenance projects as assigned
  • Reports any maintenance concerns for repairs to the Service Manager
  • Performs scheduled maintenance program
  • Is knowledgeable of federal and state apartment housing laws, as well as internal policies, initiatives and systems regarding maintenance
  • Attends and participates in training programs as required
  • Represents the Company in a professional manner at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned
