The role of Food & Beverage Multi-Unit Manager I at HMSHost offers an exciting opportunity for experienced managers to oversee multiple restaurant locations within a designated zone or terminal. Positioned as an intermediary between the Senior/Director of Operations and restaurant General Managers, this role is crucial for ensuring that all restaurants under their supervision are clean, fully staffed, operationally sound, and financially successful. The Multi-Unit Manager I utilizes broad discretion and sound judgment to make leadership decisions that affect the day-to-day functioning and long-term success of the restaurants in the zone. This position demands a dynamic leader who is adept at managing staff, enforcing company policies, maintaining operational standards, and fostering a workplace culture that prioritizes employee engagement and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities include ensuring proper opening and closing procedures are followed, scheduling managers to cover all operational hours, supporting and coaching teams to meet business objectives, and holding General Managers accountable for compliance with company standards and processes. In addition, the Manager is responsible for interpreting financial and operational reports, collaborating with senior leadership on strategic decisions, and promoting initiatives that motivate and recognize employee contributions. This role also involves oversight of procurement, inventory management, equipment maintenance, waste minimization, marketing program implementation, and strict adherence to safety and health regulations. Strong communication skills are essential for effectively conveying leadership visions and goals while also addressing complex customer and employee concerns.

The position requires a flexible schedule, with work hours spanning various shifts to ensure presence during critical operational moments. HMSHost seeks candidates with extensive multi-unit and multi-concept management experience, ideally with a background spanning quick service, casual dining, and full-service restaurants. Education in Food Service Management or Culinary Arts may substitute part of the experience requirements. Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years concurrent multi-unit management experience for small zones
  • Minimum 5 years concurrent multi-unit management experience for large zones
  • Overall 8-10 years restaurant industry experience
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and delegate effectively
  • Ability to learn and apply HMSHost company standards and practices
  • Proficiency in reading, writing and verbal communication
  • Flexible availability to meet varied shift schedules
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate and develop teams

Job Qualifications

  • Documented experience managing multiple restaurants including QSR, casual dine, and full service
  • Minimum of 3-5 years multi-unit management experience depending on zone size
  • Overall restaurant experience of 8-10 years
  • Graduation from Food Service Management or Culinary program is beneficial
  • Strong team management, delegation and issue resolution skills
  • Knowledge of HMSHost policies, products, and operational standards or ability to learn quickly
  • Effective communication skills in speaking, reading, and understanding instructions and policies
  • Ability to proactively support diversity and inclusion in the workplace
  • Capability to work varied and rotating schedules including opening, busy, and closing shifts

Job Duties

  • Ensure all GMs and staff recognize importance of preparing restaurants for opening
  • Schedule managers to ensure leadership presence during all operational hours
  • Provide consistent support, coaching and encouragement to restaurant staff
  • Interview candidates and make hiring, termination and promotion decisions
  • Hold GMs accountable for on-boarding and off-boarding associates
  • Monitor financial and operational data to meet zone goals
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and communicate vision and goals
  • Support recognition initiatives and employee engagement behaviors
  • Engage in financial decisions and controls with branch leadership
  • Ensure daily orders and inventory are managed appropriately
  • Maintain proficiency in company tools and software
  • Schedule maintenance and repairs for equipment
  • Develop and deliver training to enhance brand knowledge and service quality
  • Manage day-to-day activities of associates within the zone
  • Resolve customer and associate issues using sound judgment
  • Implement marketing programs and comply with promotional activities
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of safety and health standards
  • Train managers and staff on wellness protocols and COVID-19 requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures and company policies
