This particular job opening is for a dietary position within the Maryland School for the Deaf. The role is an 11-month, school-year position that aligns with the academic calendar, meaning the employee will not be required to work during school closures such as winter and spring breaks, as well as the summer months. The dietary position plays a crucial role in supporting the school’s food services by managing the setup, preparation, and cleanup related to all meals served on campus. The employee will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the cafeteria operates efficiently and meets health and sanitation standards.

The primary responsibilities include setting up the dietary department for all meals, preparing the salad bar, assisting with line preparation, and ensuring thorough dietary cleanup after each meal. The position also involves meticulous documentation of product usage following prescribed procedures and applicable health and sanitation regulations. A key aspect of the role is operating equipment such as dish machines or a 3-compartment sink, accompanied by related sanitation duties to maintain a safe and hygienic food service environment.

This role requires the incumbent to break down and clean up after breakfast, lunch, and dinner periods, serve meals from the cafeteria line during these times, and prepare desserts and salad bars for lunch and dinner. Furthermore, the dietary position entails preparing special food requests for events such as outings, banquets, holidays, and graduation ceremonies. Additionally, the employee is responsible for preparing meals for specific student needs including in-cafeteria suspension, in-school suspension, work-study meals, and health center meals.

Maintaining a clean kitchen environment is essential, including sanitizing work areas and equipment, cleaning kitchen spaces and hand sinks, replenishing soap and paper towel supplies, and managing waste by emptying small trash cans and replacing liner bags at shift end. The role requires the ability to assist in dining area cleaning, setting up water and juice for meals, and monitoring dish machine temperatures to ensure compliance with health standards. Notably, this position demands physical stamina as it includes heavy-duty cleaning and requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended hours.
