Job Description

U-Haul Holding Company has been a pioneering force in the moving and storage industry since its inception in 1945. Founded by L.S. "Sam" Shoen and Anna Mary Carty Shoen, U-Haul was created to meet the widespread post-World War II need for do-it-yourself moving equipment available on a one-way, nationwide basis. Over the decades, U-Haul has transformed the moving experience by offering accessible, cost-effective moving and storage solutions to millions of households across the United States and Canada. With its iconic orange trailers and widespread network, U-Haul has become a trusted name synonymous with mobility, convenience, and customer-centered service.

U-Haul Holding Company and its family of businesses emphasize a culture of health, wellness, and equal opportunity employment. Since February 1, 2020, they have implemented hiring policies aligned with applicable state laws, particularly concerning the employment of nicotine product users in specific states, demonstrating their commitment to a healthy workplace. The company also values inclusivity and ensures accommodations are available throughout the selection process, reflecting a supportive and considerate work environment.

The Moving Center General Manager Trainee role at U-Haul is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, responsible, and thoughtful individual to learn the ropes of managing one of U-Haul’s moving and storage centers. This position is designed for those who want to develop leadership skills in a fast-paced, diverse, and rewarding environment. As a General Manager Trainee, you will be hands-on in managing rental facilities, tracking inventories, overseeing fleet maintenance, and ensuring equipment is clean and well-maintained for customers. You will be entrusted with solving operational problems quickly and effectively, maintaining secure premises, and ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction.

This trainee role involves continuous education through U-Haul University, offering the chance to expand your knowledge and skills in retail management, customer care, and operational excellence. The program includes paid hands-on interviews and an attractive series of bonuses to kickstart your career. Starting pay is competitive at $20.00 per hour, with a standard 40-hour workweek.

U-Haul offers a comprehensive benefits package to General Manager Trainees, including full medical coverage, prescription plans, dental and vision insurance, and wellness programs such as gym reimbursements and weight management support. Additional benefits encompass career advancement opportunities, tuition reimbursement, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, and valuable on-the-job training. Trainees are also eligible for employee stock ownership plans, 401(k) savings plans, various insurance options, and legal and identity theft protection programs.

This role requires moderate physical exertion, including lifting up to 50 pounds, working indoors and outdoors, and following safety protocols when handling moving equipment and operating machinery. It is suited for candidates with previous management experience in retail or service industries, proficient computer skills, organizational abilities, and a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Working weekends and holidays is a requirement, reflecting the operational needs of managing a moving and storage facility.

The General Manager Trainee position at U-Haul provides an enriching career path for individuals eager to advance in retail management within a reputable and nationwide brand. The trainee will gain invaluable experience managing financial results, inventory, customer relations, and daily operations. Joining U-Haul means becoming part of a dynamic company that not only values its customers but also its employees, encouraging personal and professional growth through continuous learning, comprehensive support, and meaningful employee benefits.
