Job Description
The Air National Guard is a distinguished branch of the United States military that combines the honor of serving the nation with the flexibility to maintain a civilian career. It offers its members the chance to develop advanced skills in their chosen fields, while simultaneously contributing to their local communities. The Air National Guard provides exceptional leadership training alongside technical expertise, creating a pathway for career growth both within and beyond military service. Whether you want to serve full-time or part-time, the Air National Guard adapts to your lifestyle, allowing you to balance duties effectively and achieve professional goals in multiple arenas.
The role of Administration Specialist (3F5X1) within the Air National Guard is integral to the smooth operation of military units. These specialists provide essential administrative support to organizations, executives, and commanders who rely heavily on efficient office management and human resources functions to maintain operational readiness. The position encompasses office management tasks, human resources oversight, and executive support duties dedicated to helping senior-level personnel and military leaders carry out their responsibilities seamlessly.
As an Administration Specialist, you will be responsible for managing correspondence preparation, distribution, suspense tracking, and workflow processes to support effective organizational communication. You will oversee personnel and manpower programs that ensure optimal staffing and resource allocation within the unit. Beyond these duties, you will provide direct executive support to General Officers and Senior Executive Service civilians, managing schedules, preparing briefings, and facilitating communication channels critical to high-level decision-making.
This full-time job comes with a competitive salary starting at $49,838.78 per year, reflecting the importance of skilled administrative expertise within the military framework. The role often requires travel and working on the road, making flexibility and adaptability valuable traits for candidates. Administrative specialists serve as the backbone of their units, enabling operational efficiency through meticulous organization and proactive management.
To qualify, candidates must meet the basic military service requirements and have a contract as a commissioned officer in the Air National Guard. A high school diploma or GED is mandatory, with additional coursework in business, English composition, computer software, and keyboarding being advantageous. Candidates must score a minimum of 55 on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) in the administrative category and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate government vehicles.
New recruits without prior military experience are required to complete Basic Military Training (BMT) lasting 8.5 weeks at JB San Antonio-Lackland, TX, followed by technical training specific to their role. This comprehensive training prepares individuals with the discipline and foundational skills necessary for success in the military environment.
The Administration Specialist role correlates well with several civilian careers, including office management and executive assistant positions, creating valuable crossover skills that are transferable beyond military service. This alignment between military and civilian roles allows for professional development that benefits members in multiple aspects of their lives.
