The role of Milieu Counselor at Sapphire Health Services is integral to the therapeutic engagement and daily management of resident behaviors within the community setting. Milieu Counselors participate actively alongside residents in both structured and unstructured activities, facilitating treatment plans and behavior management strategies that emphasize physical, emotional, and protective care. This position requires a compassionate individual who can work effectively with elderly and vulnerable populations, demonstrating a deep understanding of care protocols and behavioral interventions. Milieu Counselors will be involved in client services and skill training, supporting residents during admissions, discharges, group facilitation, safety checks, and other daily routines such as meals and laundry. They also attend interdisciplinary team meetings to communicate resident status, observe behavioral changes, and contribute to individualized treatment plans. The role demands strong documentation skills to record significant behavioral observations and interactions, ensuring smooth transitions between shifts and supporting the success of behavior management plans. Job Requirements

  • Minimum CADC1 required
  • Genuine concern for and ability to work with the elderly and vulnerable populations
  • Knowledge of the requirements for providing care and supervision to the residents
  • Intermediate computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Possess sufficient communication and language skills orally and written to perform job duties and communicate with residents, other staff, family members as needed
  • Ability to make sound decisions when faced with ambiguous situations and to function effectively despite conflicting information
  • Must be able to utilize standard precaution knowledge and infection control measures where required
  • Ability to work with superiors and within parameters of corporate policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of and ability to conform to the applicable law, rules, and regulations

Job Duties

  • Client services and skill training
  • Demonstrate an attitude of acceptance of diversity with staff and residents
  • Attend, participate, and communicate with IDT team and other team meetings regarding resident interactions, observations, and changes in resident status
  • Facilitate, assist and provide support with assigned resident supports/activities such as resident admissions/discharges, group facilitation, safety checks, resident orientations, meals, laundry, nursing care, mail distribution, meetings on the unit
  • Escort residents to off-site meetings or appointments as needed
  • Assure appropriate documentation in resident record for important behavioral observations/interactions related to successful progress in behavior management
  • Assist in the development and implementation of behavioral plans and contracts
  • Work effectively with outside providers to ensure cooperative and supportive working relations and coordination of client services
  • Track individual behavior plan progress as needed
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in the midst of verbal or physical aggression
