Job Description

H-E-B is a prominent supermarket chain known for its commitment to quality service, diverse product offerings, and community engagement. With a rich history and deep roots in Texas, H-E-B has grown into one of the largest and most respected grocery retailers in the United States. Renowned for its focus on customer satisfaction, fresh and high-quality products, and innovative retail practices, H-E-B operates numerous stores offering products ranging from groceries to household items, gourmet foods, and specialty departments such as bakery, deli, produce, and more.

H-E-B prides itself on fostering a positive work environment where employees, called Partners, are valued and empowered to provide exceptional service. The company focuses on employee growth and development while maintaining high operational standards across all its departments.

The role of the Store Department Lead at H-E-B is a dynamic leadership position responsible for managing a specific department within the store. The Department Lead ensures that the department is well-stocked, well-maintained, and operates efficiently. This role involves supervising Partners, scheduling work shifts, training and developing team members, and supporting the Department Manager, often serving as the backup in their absence. The Store Department Lead also plays a critical role in maintaining food safety standards, inventory control, and customer service excellence.

Each Department Lead focuses on their specific area, such as bakery, beauty, deli, produce, or other specialty sections, and is expected to bring expert knowledge in that field. For example, Bakery Leads are involved in production planning and product quality control, while Deli Leads may handle inventory, training, and oversee different sections such as service cases or catering. The role requires the ability to perform technical duties regularly and to address customer inquiries and complaints using suggestive selling techniques. Additionally, Leads support the implementation of new systems and product rollouts, ensuring the department stays current with company standards and market trends.

Physical demands of the role vary depending on the department but generally include tasks like lifting heavy items, reaching, standing for extended periods, and working in variable environmental conditions such as cold or wet areas. H-E-B emphasizes safety and requires Partners to lift within their ability and seek assistance when needed.

Overall, the position offers a stimulating and rewarding environment for individuals passionate about retail operations, customer service, and team leadership. The Department Lead is a pivotal link between the store management and Partners, helping to maintain smooth operations and a superior shopping experience for customers.
