The YMCA of Greenville is a vibrant and rapidly growing association dedicated to strengthening the Greenville community through its core pillars of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As a leading nonprofit charitable organization, the YMCA has earned a reputation for fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where individuals and families can belong, grow, and thrive. The association is deeply committed to creating programs that support personal growth, promote wellness, and encourage community engagement in an atmosphere that values diversity, respect, and a strong sense of purpose.
The Middle School Day Camp Counselor role at the YMCA of Greenville is an essential position supporting the association’s mission by providing a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate experience for campers entering the 6th through 8th grades. This role requires dedicated individuals who are passionate about youth development, eager to contribute positively to campers’ physical, mental, and social-emotional growth, and able to foster meaningful connections through intentional activities and positive role modeling.
Counselors in this position are entrusted with the responsibility of implementing weekly lesson plans, leading group activities, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers in their care. The role demands creativity, empathy, and strong leadership skills to engage middle school participants in enriching programs that build confidence, teamwork, and a lasting sense of belonging. From managing behavior constructively to supporting camper growth with respect and dignity, the counselor plays a vital role in creating a nurturing environment aligned with YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
In addition to direct camper interaction, Middle School Day Camp Counselors collaborate closely with the leadership team, maintain program standards, and handle administrative tasks to ensure smooth operation of the camp. The YMCA offers a comprehensive benefits package for its team members, including instant access to earned wages, membership discounts, training opportunities, and retirement savings plans, emphasizing their investment in staff well-being and professional development.
Working at the YMCA of Greenville offers the opportunity to be part of a mission-driven organization that truly values individuality, fosters inclusivity, and is relentless in its quest to strengthen the community from the ground up. Whether through leading impactful activities, supporting the growth of youth, or contributing to a positive and safe atmosphere, joining this team means becoming part of a community dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
