Job Description
US Foods is one of the largest foodservice distributors in the United States, dedicated to serving a wide variety of clients including restaurants, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and hospitality providers. Founded on principles of quality, reliability, and customer-centric service, US Foods continues to evolve by embracing innovation and maintaining a strong focus on operational excellence. The company prides itself on fostering a safety-first culture and offering comprehensive benefits to its employees, making it a sought-after employer in the food distribution and logistics sector.
The role of the MHE (Material Handling Equipment) Maintenance Technician at US Foods is crucial for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of warehouse operations. This full-time position starts at a competitive wage of $35.83 per hour and involves the upkeep and repair of essential warehouse machinery such as pallet jacks, high lifts, forklifts, and batteries. The technician ensures that all equipment is safe, functional, and compliant with company policies and government safety regulations. This role supports both day and night operations, playing a pivotal role in facilitating smooth shipping and receiving processes.
Technicians in this role manage a comprehensive maintenance schedule, performing preventative maintenance (PM) and logging repairs meticulously, which helps avoid operational interruptions. In addition to mechanical repairs, the position involves light maintenance duties including replacing light bulbs, painting, and minor drywall or concrete repairs. US Foods also emphasizes the security and proper management of company tools and maintenance equipment, tasks that fall under the technician’s responsibility. The role demands a high level of technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while adhering to strict safety protocols such as Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
Ideal candidates typically have a high school diploma or equivalent, with additional mechanic training or trade school education preferred. Six months or more of prior mechanic experience is required, along with skills in welding, equipment repair, and basic mathematics. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of heavy objects up to 100 pounds, making physical fitness an important aspect of the job. The role requires coordination with warehouse personnel, supervisory staff, operations support, maintenance, sanitation teams, and outside vendors, making communication and teamwork essential.
US Foods offers an attractive benefits package for its Maintenance Technicians including low-cost medical, dental, and vision insurance for families, paid vacation, sick and personal time, employee uniforms, and a strong safety culture backed by modern equipment and excellent local leadership. The company also provides opportunities for overtime compensation, retirement benefits, pre-tax spending accounts, disability insurance, an employee stock purchase plan, and life insurance. US Foods is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, welcoming applicants of all backgrounds and identities into their workforce.
