The position available is for a Plant Engineering Manager at the Calaveras Power Station in San Antonio, Texas, classified under pay grade 18. This leadership role is crucial in overseeing all engineering and instrumentation/control duties related to the power plant’s operation. The Plant Engineering Manager is responsible for managing, training, and directing plant engineering teams, implementing technical solutions, planning and coordinating engineering projects, and optimizing plant equipment, materials, and processes to enhance overall performance and safety. The role demands a deep understanding of power generation principles combined with hands-on technical expertise to support operations, maintenance, and project execution. As part of the leadership team, this position offers an opportunity to influence power plant operations significantly, ensuring reliable power generation and adherence to safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities include overseeing engineering teams, analyzing plant operation and maintenance data to drive improvements, recommending health and safety enhancements, managing outage planning, and collaborating with various departments to implement engineering solutions. The Plant Engineering Manager also leads root cause analyses of performance issues, guides projects from conception to completion, mentors staff to advance their skills, and ensures compliance with regulatory and company standards. Candidates must demonstrate a professional engineer license, extensive experience in power generation operations and project management, and proficiency in engineering analysis tools, including dashboards and control systems. Preferred qualifications include PMP certification, advanced degrees, and familiarity with SAP systems.
