Job Description

Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) is a prominent educational district committed to providing quality education and supportive services to its vast student population in Florida. The district emphasizes fostering a respectful, professional, and inclusive environment for both staff and students. HCPS is renowned for its dedication to continuous improvement and adherence to policies and regulations that safeguard the interests of all stakeholders. As a large public school system, it provides numerous opportunities for career growth and stability to its employees, bolstered by a structured system of training, development, and competitive compensation.

The role of Cafeteria Manager 1 within Student Nutrition Services (SNS) at HCPS is a vital position tasked with managing the preparation and serving of nutritious meals for a school site cafeteria serving up to 599 meal equivalents. This position is essential in maintaining the standards set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Florida Agriculture Department, Hillsborough County Health Department, and district regulations to ensure all students and staff receive safe, high-quality meals and snacks.

This leadership role requires a strong supervisory acumen, involving managing clerical and professional staff, coordinating multiple teams, and overseeing food service operations in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Cafeteria Manager 1 assumes responsibility for interviewing, hiring, training, motivating, and evaluating personnel, while also handling work assignments and addressing any workplace issues promptly and efficiently. Beyond staff management, this position demands a meticulous approach to record-keeping and inventory management, ensuring all supplies and equipment are ordered and received timely.

Additionally, the role includes planning food preparation based on nutrition principles and safety protocols, including the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) program. The manager promotes positive relations with students, teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure a cooperative and supportive environment that contributes to students' overall well-being.

Candidates must be prepared to work within approved budgets, apply cost-saving measures, and contribute to organizational profitability. Efficient planning, project management, quality management, and human resource management are key competencies for success in this role. Given the essential nature of the position, cafeteria managers may be required to work beyond regular hours and respond to emergency situations, underscoring the importance of flexibility and commitment.

HCPS ensures equal opportunity employment and values diversity, promoting an equitable and inclusive work environment. The salary schedule for this position is publicly available through the district's official website, reflecting competitive compensation aligned with experience and qualifications. This permanent role offers a stable career path for individuals passionate about food service management, nutrition, and contributing meaningfully to the educational community.
