Job Description
Brown University Health is a reputable healthcare organization committed to providing exceptional medical services and fostering a workplace culture grounded in values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. Situated in Providence, Rhode Island, the Brown Health Medical Group Massachusetts (BHMGMA) operates with the core mission of enhancing patient care through dedicated medical and support staff. Employees at Brown University Health are expected to embody the organization's Values and Core Success Factors, which include instilling trust, valuing differences, maintaining a patient and community focus, and collaborating effectively as a team.
The position offered is for an Evening Housekeeper responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation across various office and patient areas at BHMGMA. The role operates during the evening shift from Monday to Friday, 5pm to 1:30am, with an 8-hour daily work schedule. This is a vital role within the healthcare environment as it directly supports the facility's commitment to patient safety and comfort by ensuring that all spaces are sanitary and clean, which in turn helps reduce the risk of infections and promotes a healthy environment.
Specifically, the Housekeeper's responsibilities include the thorough cleaning and supplying of offices and patient areas—this entails cleaning walls, lights, windows, vents, floors, and carpets. The Housekeeper performs tasks adhering to the facility's strict policies and procedures, maintaining high standards of ethical business conduct. Employees in this role are also expected to act as positive role models and reliable team members, actively participating in facility committees, meetings, in-services, and organizational activities to contribute to the overall success and improvement of facility operations.
The Housekeeper will assemble cleaning supplies and equipment, follow predetermined cleaning schedules and methods, and replace disposables as needed. Specific cleaning duties include shampooing and vacuuming carpets, spot removals, cleaning emergency spills promptly, sanitizing and sterilizing clinic areas, washing ceilings, walls, floors, lights, windows, fixtures, mirrors, counters, office equipment, and vents. The position also requires dry and wet mopping, scrubbing and buffing floors using rotary automatic machines, and transporting trash and soiled linens. Restocking fresh linens and moving furniture for thorough cleaning are also part of the role. An essential component of the job involves maintaining equipment cleanliness and orderly storage, regularly checking and ordering necessary supplies, and promptly reporting unsafe or unsanitary conditions to supervisors.
The position requires regular interaction with the Housekeeping Team Leader to discuss special cleaning needs, scheduling, and problem-solving, underscoring the importance of effective communication and teamwork. The Housekeeper also participates in mandatory meetings and committees to enhance professional growth, keeping current with in-service education programs.
This role demands physical stamina to handle walking, standing, and manual handling of cleaning tools and equipment. The Housekeeper must be capable of lifting and moving items up to 50 pounds occasionally and possess specific vision abilities such as close, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The role includes potential exposure to various patient conditions, including infectious diseases, blood, and bodily fluids, thus requiring adherence to strict safety protocols and possibly necessitating reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
The pay range for this position is competitive, between $18.00 and $25.82 per hour, reflecting the skill and dedication required to maintain a clean, safe patient environment. Brown University Health is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to fostering a discrimination and harassment-free workplace. This position does not require driving and offers employees the opportunity to work in a supportive environment dedicated to professional excellence and community health.
