The role of a Cleaning and Sanitation Associate at Brown University Health is a vital position that plays an essential part in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This evening-shift position involves working Monday through Friday from 5 pm to 1:30 am. The position requires an individual who is diligent, detail-oriented, and committed to upholding Brown University Health’s high standards of cleanliness and safety. Within this role, you will perform routine cleaning duties, including the cleaning of walls, lights, windows, vents, floors, and carpets in both offices and patient care areas. Responsibilities extend beyond basic cleaning tasks, as the associate will be responsible for assembling cleaning supplies, shampooing and vacuuming carpets for bacteria control, sanitizing and sterilizing clinic areas, and responding promptly to emergency spills. You will also handle the transportation of trash and soiled linen, maintain cleaning equipment, and participate actively in team meetings, facility committees, and in-service training programs to foster continuous professional development.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum of 1 year experience in housekeeping or cleaning role preferably in a healthcare setting
  • ability to operate cleaning equipment and machines
  • knowledge of safety and sanitation standards
  • ability to follow detailed cleaning schedules and procedures
  • physical ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • ability to work evening shifts from 5 pm to 1:30 am monday through friday
  • strong communication and teamwork skills
  • willingness to adhere to facility policies and ethical standards

Job Qualifications

  • knowledge of housekeeping functions and standards including safety and sanitation
  • knowledge of cleaning methods materials tools and equipment

  • skilled in operating housekeeping equipment and machines and cleaning clinic areas
  • ability to perform repetitive cleaning operations under indirect supervision

Job Duties

  • assemble cleaning supplies and equipment and clean floors rooms and offices following established schedules and methods
  • replace disposables
  • shampoo and vacuum carpets for cleaning and bacteria control remove spots from carpets
  • assist in cleaning emergency spills as observed or requested
  • sanitize and sterilize clinic areas
  • wash ceilings walls floors lights windows fixtures mirrors counters office equipment and vents
  • dry and wet mop floors in uncarpeted offices and rooms scrub and buff floor with rotary automatic machines
  • transport trash and soiled linen from collection points to designated area and distribute fresh linen
  • move furniture to clean
  • dust surfaces damp-wipe furniture and polish metal and porcelain fixtures in bathrooms
  • check supplies daily and order replacements
  • maintain equipment in a clean and orderly manner restock supplies as needed
  • identify and report any unsafe or unsanitary conditions to supervisor
  • meet with housekeeping team leader regularly to confer on special cleaning needs problems and work schedule
  • attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested
  • enhance professional growth and development through in-service meetings and education programs
  • perform other duties as assigned
