The role of Met Lab Technician at Westinghouse is located in Columbia, South Carolina, and requires 100% onsite work. This position is integral to ensuring the quality and reliability of materials through meticulous laboratory and metallurgical testing. A Met Lab Technician at Westinghouse will carry out routine and repetitive metallographic laboratory assignments, visual inspections, and dimensional measurements following established procedures. These tasks are crucial for maintaining the company's high standards in material quality and production processes. The role involves setting up, calibrating, and monitoring analytical equipment, preparing reagents and solutions, and performing physical and chemical analyses.
The technician is responsible for troubleshooting analytical equipment when performance issues or negative trends are detected, often conducting first echelon maintenance and following troubleshooting protocols to maintain optimal equipment functionality. Additionally, the Met Lab Technician performs detailed inspections and ensures the cleanliness and proper maintenance of tools, work areas, and equipment. This position reports directly to the Chem Lab Manager and plays a key role in supporting the laboratory’s mission to provide accurate and timely material analysis.
This position offers a competitive salary range from $55,379 to $72,008 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and skills. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- minimum 2 years of experience in an analytical laboratory
- knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques
- ability to perform standard shop math
- familiarity with chemistry, physics or electronics
- good communication and teamwork skills
- ability to follow established procedures
- capability to troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment
- commitment to working 100% onsite at Columbia, SC
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent with a course in chemistry, physics or electronics to provide familiarity with laboratory equipment or a relevant technical degree
