Job Description

The Senior Center supported by Meridian Township and Okemos Public School District offers a dynamic and welcoming community space dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults. This Senior Center serves as a vital resource hub and social gathering spot for members and guests, providing a nurturing environment where older adults can engage in diverse programs, social activities, and community services. The Center stands as a collaborative effort between Meridian Township and the Okemos Public School District, reflecting a community-oriented partnership aimed at promoting wellbeing, active lifestyles, and social inclusion for seniors in the locality. Through various initiatives, the Center acts as a beacon for community engagement, education, and support services tailored especially for the older adult population.

The role available is that of a Senior Center Receptionist and Administrative Support, employed through EDUStaff, a third-party educational staffing provider. This position is integral to the daily operations of the Senior Center, serving as the first point of contact for members and guests. The receptionist acts as a welcoming ambassador and advocate for older adults, supporting a broad range of administrative, programmatic, and customer service functions. This position not only includes regular receptionist duties such as answering phones, assisting with member check-ins, and providing information on community resources, but also encompasses a variety of essential back-end processes including database maintenance, bookkeeping assistance, and marketing support via digital platforms and printed materials. The receptionist will be expected to handle tasks involving scheduling, event preparation, and volunteer coordination, contributing to a warm and service-oriented environment that fosters strong community relationships.

This part-time role typically requires up to 30 hours per week with flexible scheduling predominantly between 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM from Monday to Friday, with some availability needed for occasional evenings and weekends to support special events. The Senior Center receptionist position demands strong organizational skills, proficiency with digital tools and software such as Google Workspace, Canva, and various membership databases, and excellent interpersonal abilities to connect effectively with a diverse aging population. The role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about community service, working in a collaborative environment, and promoting the welfare of older adults through meaningful engagement and support.
