The role of Store Manager at Five Below is pivotal in maintaining and enhancing this vibrant retail environment. This hourly position involves overseeing all facets of store operations to ensure smooth day-to-day functioning while driving sales growth and maintaining expense control. Responsibilities include managing the receipt and organization of merchandise, setting up and maintaining attractive and effective displays aligned with corporate promotional guidelines, and managing opening and closing procedures to guarantee security and operational readiness. The Store Manager also assumes the role of Manager on Duty when required, taking full charge of staff management, customer service, and resolving any urgent operational issues. By supervising and supporting store associates through onboarding, training, and daily activity management, the Manager fosters a motivated and well-informed team committed to providing excellent customer service.

Additionally, this role demands a hands-on approach to merchandising and inventory control, ensuring that products are presented appealingly and that company processes related to inventory integrity are rigorously followed. To succeed in this role, candidates must possess at least two years of management experience, excellent communication skills, creativity, the ability to multitask, and maintain composure under pressure. This position requires physical stamina to operate a cash register frequently, handle merchandise weighing up to 25 pounds, use ladders, and move throughout the store actively to assist customers and manage stock.

Job Requirements

  • Frequently operate cash register
  • Frequently move merchandise weighing up to 25 lbs and places/removes merchandise up to a height of 5-10 feet
  • Frequently ascend/descend ladders in order to retrieve and put away stock
  • Frequently position self to kneel, bend, twist, and stoop, including in the stock room and on the sales floor
  • Frequently communicate and exchange information with customers on the telephone and face-to-face in the store, as well as with managers and coworkers
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • Frequently move across the sales floor assisting customers, as well as to and from the stock room retrieving and putting away merchandise
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, which will require day, evening, weekends and may include overnight shifts and travel as required
  • Must be able to identify and discern email and print instructions regarding merchandise layouts, associate schedules, and standard operating procedures
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary, upright position for 80% of the time

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent

Job Duties

  • Oversees the receiving, unpacking, and organizing of new stock to ensure items are quickly and efficiently placed on the sales floor
  • Manages the setup and maintenance of displays for specific store sections, ensuring signage is accurate and promotions are properly highlighted, following corporate guidelines for resets and seasonal updates
  • Manages the entire process of opening or closing the store, which includes securing cash, locking doors, setting alarms, and ensuring everything is in place for a smooth daily operation
  • Acts as Manager on Duty when needed, taking full responsibility for store operations, staff management, customer service, and addressing any urgent issues
  • Helps oversee the daily activities of all store associates, ensuring they are performing their duties effectively and providing excellent customer service
  • Supports the onboarding and ongoing training of associates, helping them learn store policies, product knowledge, and operational procedures to improve their performance
  • Drives store sales and controls expenses: Actively seeks ways to boost sales by optimizing merchandising, staff performance, and customer service
  • Executes the market plan by arranging products and signage according to corporate guidelines, ensuring promotional materials are displayed properly and updated regularly
  • Ensures the execution of company Inventory Integrity process
