The Resident Assistant (RA) plays a crucial role within UGM’s shelter operations, directly supporting the mission to love, serve, and transform lives through Christ. This role is essential for maintaining the safety, structure, and spiritual atmosphere of the shelter. The RA ensures that shelter clients receive compassionate supervision while fostering an environment conducive to healing and personal growth. Reporting to the Client Services Manager, the RA collaborates with shelter departments and volunteers to effectively support client intake and exit processes, monitor facility safety, and uphold UGM policies. Furthermore, the RA embraces the mission’s Christ-centered values by leading or participating in spiritual engagements with residents and volunteers, including devotions, prayer, and Bible studies.

The RA's responsibilities extend across various key result areas, including client services and shelter operations, volunteer and client engagement, safety and emergency response, and site-specific duties related to transient camp management and daily shelter logistics. In addition to administrative and supervisory tasks such as monitoring client behavior, documenting urinalysis and breathalyzer tests, managing medication distribution, and maintaining accurate records, the RA also supports crisis response with compassion and clear communication. This role requires flexibility, excellent communication, and collaboration skills to work productively with a diverse client population often facing complex challenges such as homelessness, addiction, and mental illness.
