Job Description
Union Gospel Mission (UGM) is a well-established faith-based, evangelical Christian non-profit organization located in Spokane, Washington. Founded with a mission to share the Gospel and provide compassionate care to homeless and impoverished individuals, UGM operates various facilities and programs aimed at restoring lives and rebuilding hope. The Men’s Shelter in Spokane exemplifies UGM’s commitment to ministering to vulnerable populations, particularly men who have faced homelessness, addiction, and other life challenges. The organization emphasizes a ministry-centered work environment, making every position a vital part of their spiritual mission and community impact.
The Resident Assistant position at the Men’s Shelter offers a meaningful and impactful career opportunity for individuals who are passionate about serving others and embracing a faith-driven work culture. This full-time role involves comprehensive supervision of client services and the management of the shelter’s daily operations. The Resident Assistant is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and nurturing environment conducive to healing and transformation for the men residing at the shelter. Key responsibilities include the supervision and training of volunteers and staff, managing intake and exit procedures, maintaining accurate client records, overseeing security measures, and coordinating with other service providers.
This role is ideally suited for individuals seeking purposeful employment within a Christian ministry framework, including those balancing their career with educational commitments or retirees seeking an opportunity to serve and minister. The position requires a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a strong commitment to UGM’s Statement of Faith and Core Values. The Resident Assistant will also actively participate in spiritual activities such as Bible study, prayer, devotions, and gospel sharing, helping to foster a supportive and faith-filled community.
Furthermore, UGM recognizes the importance of work-life balance and rewards employees who work night or weekend shifts with additional per diem pay, enhancing the financial benefits for those working graveyard or weekend hours. The role also offers numerous benefits in line with non-profit employment standards, including paid time off, comprehensive insurance options, and retirement plans with company matching.
As a Resident Assistant, you will be instrumental in modeling servant-leadership, exercising compassion with clients who may be struggling with addiction or homelessness, and upholding the Mission’s vision. This position demands strong interpersonal skills, reliability, integrity, emotional balance, and a genuine heart to serve the poor and marginalized. A commitment to maintaining healthy boundaries and adhering to organizational policies ensures a professional and safe environment for clients and staff alike.
Overall, this position provides an extraordinary opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of men seeking restoration and hope while growing in your faith and ministry impact. Joining the UGM team allows you to work in a spiritually rich setting that values your contributions and supports your personal and professional growth within a community dedicated to transforming lives through Christ.
