Job Description

The Toyota Indiana YMCA is a prominent nonprofit, charitable organization dedicated to strengthening the community through its core pillars of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As a vital part of the YMCA network, the Toyota Indiana YMCA offers numerous programs and services designed to support individuals and families in the area. The organization is known for fostering an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere where every member of the community feels valued and respected. It is committed to creating a positive environment that encourages personal growth, healthy lifestyles, and meaningful social connections.

The role of the Membership Team Member at the Toyota Indiana YMCA is essential in maintaining this supportive and positive atmosphere. This position is focused on responding to the needs of members and guests, promoting memberships and programs, and upholding the YMCA's mission and core values. The team member acts as the first point of contact for members, providing exceptional customer service and assisting with membership enrollment. They help build strong relationships with members and contribute to a community where people can belong and become their best selves.

The Membership Team Member plays a critical role in ensuring all check-in procedures are followed accurately and that the environment adheres to the YMCA's safety policies, especially relating to youth protection. This position requires dedication to great communication and relationship-building skills to help members connect with each other and with the programs that best fit their needs. The team member is also responsible for managing phone inquiries, resolving membership concerns, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the lobby area. A key aspect of this role is the responsibility to report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior promptly and to comply with all mandated abuse reporting requirements. This ensures the YMCA remains a safe space for all participants.

This role demands flexibility to work a minimum of two weekday shifts per week and at least two weekend shifts per month, including early morning, evening, and weekend hours. The physical requirements are modest but include occasionally lifting or moving objects weighing up to 10 pounds. The noise level in the working environment is generally moderate. There is an emphasis on a culture of genuine care, hope, determination, and nurturing support, aligned with the YMCA’s commitment to community strengthening.

The Toyota Indiana YMCA emphasizes training and compliance. Employees in this role are required to complete CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen, and Blood Borne Pathogen training within 60 days of employment, as well as Child Abuse Prevention training before the first day of work. The ideal candidate brings excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, prior customer service experience, and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups from all social and economic segments of the community. Basic computer skills are also necessary for managing clerical duties and membership systems.

By joining the Toyota Indiana YMCA as a Membership Team Member, individuals become part of a team on a relentless quest to make the community stronger, inviting all members to belong, grow, and thrive in an environment where their potential is encouraged and supported.
