The Full-Time Barista position at Alfred’s Melrose Place location reports directly to the Cafe Manager and is classified as a non-exempt role. The wage offers $19.42 per hour plus tips, with hourly earnings approximately ranging from $22.50 to $26.50. This role is essential in maintaining Alfred’s high standards for guest experience by providing exceptional hospitality, superior product quality, and smooth, efficient cafe operations. The Barista’s primary responsibility is to craft high-quality coffee, tea, and food items while fostering a warm and energetic atmosphere for both guests and team members. It requires a candidate who is collaborative and adaptable, passionate about hospitality and teamwork, and dedicated to creating memorable customer interactions.

The role demands strong customer service skills, including welcoming guests warmly, guiding them through Alfred’s beverage and food offerings, answering questions thoughtfully, and building genuine rapport. The Barista also efficiently handles phone inquiries, order processing, and supports mobile order operations, maintaining professionalism even during peak hours.

In addition to customer service, the Barista is expected to prepare beverages and food offerings consistently, adhering to Alfred’s recipes and standards. Operation, cleaning, and maintenance of coffee equipment are integral tasks, alongside maintaining cleanliness, organization, and sanitation in all beverage and food preparation areas.

Job Requirements

  • Lift and carry up to 20 pounds without assistance
  • Move quickly and efficiently throughout the cafe in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain strong close-range vision and attention to detail for drink preparation cash handling and order accuracy
  • Bend squat reach and perform cleaning stocking and other operational tasks as needed
  • Remain on feet for extended periods throughout scheduled shifts
  • Comfortably operate a POS system cash register or tablet device to accurately process customer orders and payments
  • Demonstrate the hand dexterity and coordination needed to safely and efficiently operate espresso machines steamers grinders and other cafe equipment while preparing beverages to company standards

Job Qualifications

  • Previous cafe coffee or restaurant experience is preferred but not required
  • Passion for hospitality and creating positive customer experiences in a fast-paced customer-facing environment
  • Strong communication interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team setting while working efficiently under pressure
  • Positive attitude strong work ethic and eagerness to learn and grow
  • Flexibility to attend quarterly team meetings trainings or company events that may occasionally take place outside of regular scheduled shifts
  • Maintain reliable attendance and consistent availability including a minimum commitment of three shifts per week

Job Duties

  • Welcome guests with warmth and hospitality delivering an elevated customer experience

  • Foster a positive team environment through active listening clear communication and a solutions-oriented mindset
  • Partner with leadership and teammates to address operational needs and maintain consistency across shifts
  • Maintain a clean organized and fully stocked cafe environment throughout each shift
  • Assist with inventory restocking deliveries and overall cafe upkeep
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in Company’s employee handbook
  • Perform additional tasks assigned to meet company goals
  • Follow all company procedures related to food safety sanitation hygiene and cafe organization
  • Report safety hazards incidents or operational concerns to the Management
