The role of Medical Support Specialist, also known as Plasma Center Nurse, is crucial in supporting the day-to-day operations of BioLife’s plasma donation centers. Reporting directly to the Plasma Center Manager, the Medical Support Specialist plays an integral role in ensuring the health, safety, and eligibility of plasma donors. This position demands a strong commitment to regulatory compliance, high-quality medical oversight, and responsive donor care. The Medical Support Specialist conducts various medical responsibilities including determining donor eligibility through informed consent management, medical history reviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and scrupulous review of serological test results. Furthermore, they manage donor adverse events and execute the center's medical emergency protocols in consultation with the Center Physician.
In addition to clinical duties, this role supports several operational and safety initiatives, including employee health programs, vaccination drives such as Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu, and environmental health and safety compliance. The Medical Support Specialist is also empowered to act as the Pandemic Coordinator when authorized, providing critical support during public health threats and internal investigations. This dynamic part-time position based in Pomona, CA, offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $40.48 to $55.66, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
- Current RN, NP, or PA licensure or certification in the assigned state
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification
- Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy
- Completion of FDA-approved BioLife Medical Support Specialist training
- Minimum two years clinical or hospital experience
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent including graduate equivalent of a recognized nursing program
- Current licensure or certification as Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA) in the state of assignment
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification
- Completion of FDA-approved training for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
- Two years of clinical or hospital setting experience
Job Duties
- Determine donor eligibility including informed consent management, conduct medical history interviews and physical examinations, review laboratory test results including Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE)
- Manage donor adverse events and evaluate donor reactions following established SOPs
- Implement medical emergency procedures including development of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport coordination
- Notify donors of unsuitable test results and consult with Center Physician or Medical Affairs on medical and technical issues
- Support employee health programs including Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccinations
- Manage and assess employee incidents referring to occupational health or emergency room as required
- Serve as Pandemic Coordinator and support pandemic threat investigations when authorized
